chances for couple colleges

male korean-american student from Los Angeles
school: My school is considered under-performing...around 5000 people in school and to tell you the truth, not competive. Huge dropout rate (around 30-50 percent.)
^funny story about dat...there was around 1000 in my freshman year class. During sophmore, it shrunk to 850ish...then junior year, my class was a little above the 700 student mark. and my Senior year, there is a grand total of 631 students. -_-.... that is why below, I don't know my exact

rank: well, they calculate end of senior year. But I am in the top 10 percent. But likely much higher. I will check up on it later.

I have straight A's throughout my high school career but freshman year was different. Then after the treatment my dad was ok, I started to focus back in school.

well, I spoke with my counselor and got a new college list. (i used to want to only stay near Los Angeles, but my counselor suggested that there is plenty of financial aid everywhere so I shouldn't hesitate to apply to schools outside of CAlifornia.... so yea, new list I guess.)
chances at:
UCLA
UCSD
UCI
USC (<-- my dream school)
Stanford
Columbia

thank you.

1337noh4k4,
UCLA-match
UCSD-saftey match
UCI-guarenteed
USC-match (in for sure)
Stanford- slight reach
Columbia- slight reach

in my opinion, you have solid chances at whereever you apply. If you can raise your SAT I scores by 100-150 points, you should be solid everywhere you apply. You SAT II scores are good, grades solid with a upward trend. Freshman year was bad but it is understandable. I;d be shocked if you get rejected from any UC's or USC. Stanford is always reach as well as Columbia. No one is match for these schools.

you should get into all those schools. I don't know. These days, even the best applicants get rejected for no apparent reason.

ooo.... anyone else...any comments? any suggestions?

UCLA- Accected

UCSD- Accepted
UCI- Saftey full ride???
USC - Accepted/Merit?
Stanford- Rejected
Columbia- Waitlisted -> Accepted

I'm pretty sure you'll make it into all the schools you apply to. Stanford, for everyone, is a stretch, and if you get lucky, you'll make it. It all depends on who reads your essay/teacher recs. Make sure you write a great essay and you'll be on your way!

IHATESAT, rExRuN467, and neemi thank you for the advice and chances... is there any other thing i can do to increase my chances other than get good teacher recs and write a solid essay?
edit//
I e-mailed my counselor today, and he told me that my rank is 4 out of 631.

ALso, will my freshman year and my high school's bad reputation (reputation as in huge dropout rate and people don't care about school) hurt my chances?

1337noh4k4,
freshman year will not be held against you because you had a illness in your family. (This illness will excuse your freshman year and besides, the colleges you are applying to do not put little, if not any weight on freshman year)

your high school: you come from a disadvantaged high school and will help you somewhat. You actually in my opinion, will get into Stanford because I looked over your stats again and see that you are a 1st generation student (a plus in your application), go to a disadvantaged high school (another plus), somewhat economically disadvantaged (a plus), and illness in your family ( a huge plus that will "cover" your freshman year, and awesome grades/scores/ ec's/ awards/ courseload.

I wouldn't worry about your college chances. Go Enjoy yourself and come back and tell us where you got accepted. =)
