He sent the app on 10/10, so it was exactly one month from app to notification.
I received it, thanks
@gumbymom sorry I mentioned you in the wrong post I meant the stats you commented here of the kids that were accepted/denied and whether they were out of state or in state(you second comment)
@Northwood16: I did a search on the Cal Poly Pomona Admissions thread on this website, found those posts and copied them into my reply. You can search any discussion thread by using the “magnifying glass” and enter in key words, so if you search for posts about computer science, you enter “computer science” and all posts from that thread will show up on your search.
Update: son was deferred at Cal Poly SLO, and received supplemental questionnaires from UCI and UCD.
@carlsbadbruin: Good news getting the supplemental questionnaires for those UC’s which means they are interested.
Son is also in at Sonoma State!
Update: Also in at Cal State Fullerton! He’s still hoping for one of the UCs, though…
Update: Accepted at University of Arizona, Arizona State, and Northern Arizona University; Cal State Chico, Cal State Fullerton, and Sonoma State; Denied at Cal State Long Beach and San Jose State. Still waiting on Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State, Cal Poly SLO (ha!), UCSB, UCR, UCI, UCD, UCSC. Whew!
Update: Denied at UC Davis (received and returned Supplemental and recommendation). Denied at SDSU, Cal Poly SLO. Still northing from UCR or CPP, although many have heard.
I am no expert on this, but your son’s chance of getting into a csu is pretty high. However, from what I know of a UC, it can get very competitive and the admission rate lowers every year. Avoid Csus if possible. Csus I would recommend are pomona for cs, SLO, and LB. Csula is the worst. Ucsd shouldnt be a problem but I hear its socially dead. Ucs, privates, or ivy leagues if possible. Good luck with your son’s future endeavors!
He’s still waiting to hear from Cal Poly Pomona, UCI, and UCR, but so far has gotten into ASU ($3k scholarship), U of AZ ($5k scholarship), CSU Fullerton, CSU Chico, and Sonoma State for Computer Science. Of these five, which would have the better CS programs? Obviously ASU and U of AZ are quite a bit more than the CSUs, so for either ASU or U of AZ he would need to take out $5k a year in loans; the CSUs would be covered by us in their entirety. Would either of them be worth that, or is there not much of a difference in the CS program between ASU/U of AZ and say, Chico?
I wouldn’t spend the extra $ to attend ASU of UofA vs the Cal States you list above. Tour the CSU campuses, they are very different in size and feel. One will feel more like home and that’s where he should go. Sonoma has less than 1/3 of the student population of Fullerton, Chico is in-between but in more of a traditional college town. He will do best in a comfortable environment.
Thank you, NCalRent! We’re still hoping he gets into Cal Poly Pomona, UCI, or UCSC but it is unlikely.
Update: waitlisted at UCSC and UCR, and denied at UCI. Still waiting on Cal Poly Pomona…
Admitted to UCSC, denied Cal Poly Pomona. Still waiting on UCR, but son received an additional $5k from University of Arizona, for a total of $10k this year, and has decided to commit. UCSC is too hilly and liberal for him :-), and he looks forward to the school spirit at U of A.
Congrats to your son and I wish him good luck with his college career and future.
Thank you! I hope this thread is helpful to others in the future. Now on to son #2, a rising senior…
Hi, my son is also considering CS and similar list of schools. He is a rising senior. May I know, calsbadbruin, if your son got accepted / rejected by UCR in the end pls?
My son never checked, since he decided he wasn’t interested in UCR. Good luck!
