Daughter has 730 reading, 770 math, 790 writing,
will retake to bump up reading score
many AP/honors classes GPA 4.0 and 4.40
average extracurriculars
hook- just enough to be listed as hispanic

Low reach she has a good chance

thanks , good luck to you!!

I think dartmouth is a reach (ivy leagues are always unpredictable)
It depends a lot on ECs and essays now since so many applicants have outstanding academics.

Also it’s a hook if she’s listed as Hispanic but if her last name is like smith or Johnson…then that hook doesn’t really work.

jaredmot1 -she just took an SAT prep course which spent a week on each subject

Can you be more detailed about the ECs?

EC’s are pretty average or maybe below. Varsity swim team, officer in a couple clubs, lifeguarding jobs, some volunteer hours in a few different areas, some tutoring etc. nothing outstanding

Joesm112- the last name is latin. So is it still a hook at Dartmouth?

well she is part Hispanic and the last name matches, so wouldn’t you list her as Hispanic? The college prep advisor at the high school said to do so.

^^ Misinformed

Falcon1- could you expand a little on your misinformed comment please. I can’t tell who you think is misinformed and why. Thanks. I appreciate all input.

anybody else have thoughts on applying as Hispanic?

I’d love to be “chanced” too if possible! My GPA is 94/100, my school uses the /100 scale. I’ve taken 6 out of the 7 AP’s offered at my school, and am second in a class of 54 (super small school). I have run cross country, nordic skied, and ran track and field for all four years of high school, been a cross country captain for two years, nordic captain for one, and will most likely be track captain this spring. I listed that I’ve been pretty successful in competition as a nordic skier. I just took the SAT’s for the third time Saturday, and I think I can have about a 2100 with a superscore, and have a 30 on the ACT’s, and think I can bring that up to a 32ish this coming Saturday. I have two Dartmouth specific rec’s, one coming from a teacher who attended Dartmouth, the other from my computer science teacher (the subject I will major in). My essay was very good (according to my teachers/family) and my supplement will be alright. I’ve worked all summer every summer since 8th grade, mostly at my father’s boat business (my essay topic). LOTS of hours at work.

Forgot my SAT II’s! I scored a 730 on US History, and didn’t do so well on math, but I’m retaking math 1 and 2 in January and I know that I can score above 700 in both.

^Is that just a friendly heads-up or advertisement/solicitation?

Probably some sort of advertisement. ivy-apps .com sounds totes legit.

If she is a quarter Hispanic, then put it; however, if she is a majority of something else like Asian or white, then put both. Like the previous comment said, don’t try to force the whole Hispanic thing, they put the multiple ethnicity option there for a reason.
