Chances for Early Decision Cornell(NY)

I go to a New York high school, ranked 97 out of the nation's public high schools by MSNBC.

SAT- 2050 (700 critical reading, 680 math, 670 writing)

SATII- Math IIC- 730 US History- 790 Literature- 650

GPA- I have a 95.5 average, which I believe equals a 4.0 This is without adding 5 points to every AP class I've taken, which is what I've heard some schools do.

APs- 5 on European History, 5 on US History, 5 on English Literature

Taking AP Calculus, AP Italian, AP Government/Politics, AP Biology, and AP English Composition this year, as well as Economics(12th grade that is)

Extracuricular- Varsity Tennis 4 years, National Honor Society, and a whole lot of other stretched out b.s. including one year of varsity wrestling.

Basically, compared to some of these people, I have no real extracuriculars, and my SATs are not IVY quality. But my AP scores are good and my GPA is good. Do I have a shot at Cornell with early decision?

see if u can bring up that SAT with the october.....i think u have a pretty decent shot if u do that

The MSNBC list is COMPLETE crap, so don't bother flaunting it.

And I don't think the SAT is your biggest problem.

You have an average shot at Cornell. But it also depends on which school you apply to.

I'm applying to the Engineering School, as for that list, some of our teachers said it was b.s. because of the way it was calculated. However, I saw some people ask for school ranking, so that's the only ranking I heard of that's why I put it up.

As for the SAT, I'm actually scared of getting a lower score, but I will try again. The thing is, when I did take the SAT I was thankful that I at least got above a 2000, I'm really bad with standardized tests such as the SAT.

bump this thing

I'm bumping this because one guy said that SATs were slightly off, while another one said that SATs are not my problem. So which one is it, I guess I am looking for a third or fourth opinion here.

I'll be joining you in that ED Cornell pool. Too bad we cant switch our SATs and GPA to become one great applicant (I have a 3.4 and a 2300). Your GPA and APs are so strong that Im sure you have a good shot. And your SAT is certainly not out of their range. Best of luck.

I'll repeat what I've said in a lot of other Cornell threads: they LOVE early decision. They get so many "I applied to all the Ivy's and only got accepted at Dartmouth and Cornell" kids that they really go crazy over the kids that have Cornell as their first choice.

It does depend on what school you apply to, but I think ED at Cornell gives you a better chance than ED at any of the other Ivys.

SAT is really weak... especially for engineering school... 680 SAT math and 740 math IIC.....

a big blow to your chances

how can u say the MSNBC list is BS?

Justify it and maybe ill accept it

We would make an awesome applicant, SAT 2300 and GPA 4.0, heck, you don't even need ECs to power that freight train. Also, the only reason I can't do well on those communist SATs is because I can't think fast enough, especially on the math. No, I have no backup evidence to claim that the SATs are a communist invention save that they were invented in the 60s.

P.S. These Cornell guys are also from NY, so I might tell them to take a look at my math B regents score, a 98 on that exam is an accomplishment, and I'm one of the few kids in my class to get a 90 on the pre-calculus final, unfortunately, because of the aforementioned SATs, where I was pressed for time, I just can't compete with the computerheads.

yua the math b was messed up! aha

i hate regents man...i didnt like the physics regents especially

but btw i believe you that the SAT is communist haha
