I've visited campus and loved it and also had an alumni interview which I thought went pretty well. The catch is there's three or four kids applying early from my school which is pretty small, and my school has had a very minimal relationship with Colby in the past years, as very few kids have even applied.

What do you guys think about my chances? Also, do you think it's worth it to apply ED 1 at all? Or do I have enough of a chance regular?

Other schools considering: (what do you think about this list? need more reaches? matches? safeties?)

Trinity
Con Coll
Richmond
Bates..(wasn't a huge fan)
Bucknell
Lehigh
Maryland

=====================================================

ALSO.... i'm currently VERY TORN between ed at COLBY or COLGATE??? and i'm freaking out because of the nearing deadline for ED1!! i have a relation who attends Colgate... and I've heard they value that quite a bit. What concerns me at Colby is what seems to be their lack of bio/premed majors. Does anybody know much about the science curriculum/med school acceptance rate at Colby? I do know that Colgate has built a BEAUTIFUL new science center and has a lot of money they're putting toward science. If anybody has an opinions regarding the two schools I would really appreciate it :)

THANKS SO MUCH!! :)

BUMP....

please, if anybody has any advice or thoughts at all, I would really appreciate it so much. with the ed 1 deadline approaching quickly.. i'm so anxious about this all..

My son had similar stats and ECs as you (but at a top prep school) and was accepted RD at Colby last year. (He thought about ED, but decided not to apply ED anywhere.) He'll be majoring in Bio/Environmental (starting next Sept after a gap year.) Also, he had a similar college list. So, I think your chances at ED or RD are decent, but applying ED would certainly improve your chances at either school. You could try ED1 at one school and ED2 at another if the first one does not work out.

My son visited Colgate, but decided not to apply. He was accepted at Bucknell, didn't like Trinity, and was waitlisted at Conn College. He really loved Colby after visiting. Along with Earlham, Colby had the friendliest student body by far. The med school acceptance rate at Colby is really high, but I don't recall the figure since my son is not pre-med. I doubt that having a relative at Colgate will make a difference in whether you are accepted.

Good luck!

Doing ED I at Colby will help a lot, your stats fall in the range. Bio Chem is big on campus, Colby has a new science center and does well on Med school acceptance. Many students go to Colby because of their strength in sciences.
ED II is not a great idea, the acceptance rate is no better than RD (about 30%).
Our daughter was accepted RD to both Colby and Colgate, and decided for Colby. She didn't care for the frat system at Colgate, and felt Colby to be warmer and a tighter community, which has proven very true. Good luck!
