I am interested in applying to schools for musical theater and for criminology. What are the chances of me getting into Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, USC, Ithaca, Elon, UPenn, University of Michigan, schools like that.

You do a lot of theater work and music which is great. The Bs are little red flags to elite colleges (Spanish and geometry are sort of important). If you are just seeking a performing arts degree at Carnegie Mellon or Columbia then I’d say you have a decent chance. Also, are you planning to send in a music supplement for piano? If not, you might not want to elaborate on piano since you already have so much experience with other performing arts (honestly, piano is not that impressive unless you’re extremely good)

i take it you will be a junior next year? same boat as me

first off: dont waste your summer, and spend a little time prepping for SATs.

your grades are there, could be better (but honestly, who’s gonna say a 3.96 isn’t above average?).

keep doing theater, im so glad you found something you love doing, and ECs are hella important so keep up with that

ok, im not even a junior yet, so i dont know many of these schools well enough, just started my hardcore college research in the past month, so i apologize for missing some

My scale:
best chance—>lowest chance

safety –> low match –> mid match –> high match –> low reach –> reach –> high reach

C Mellon: reach
Columbia: reach
USC: mid/high match
Ithaca: dont know enough
Elon: dunno
Upenn: reach
Uni mich: high reach

Keep in mind im being extra critical, just to be safe. Also, I cant tell how well you will do on the SAT or ACT, so im assuming you wont get a perfect score or anything too high, just to be safe

and I’m no expert either. Just dont be discouraged by others’ applications that seem flawless: the cream of the crop are the majority on this website, and those who are proud of their resumes will be more willing to share

Chance back! and good luck!

@korracarrot I guess not for piano. I also performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008. What do you think the chances are for Criminology?

You don’t really need any prerequisites for criminology though you did mock trial, which is good!

@theatregirl445‌ UPDATE
i messed up, i meant to say University of Michigan was a high match, not a high reach. You have a very favorable chance there, i encourage you to apply!
