(Taking ACT and subject tests next month)
Varsity swim since Freshman year
Academic League since Freshman year
Been working as a photographers assistant at several studios simultaneously since sophomore year ( photography is also a huge hobby of mine)
Worked as an office assistant before that
Chance me for electrical/computer engineering!
Schools on my list are currently:
UCSC UCLA UCSD UCB
CalPoly SLO
SJSU
Harvey Mudd
Columbia University (high reach, obviously)
UCLA/UCB: high match, low reach but Engr major is competitive(obvious…)
UCSC: low match.
Cal Poly SLO: Match for admission, but don’t know about major
Harvey Mudd: low reach-reach. SAT is a bit low
For Harvey Mudd your score for SAT is bit too low. Class of 2019 Critical Reading 670 - 760 Math 730 - 800 Writing 680 - 760 SAT Math 2 750 - 800. Good luck!
Harvey Mudd: Mid Reach
UCLA/UCB: Low Reach to Target
UCSD, UCSC: Target
CalPoly, SJSU: Safety
Do you go to a competitive high school?
Look into Santa Clara. I’d say its a match with good engineering in Silicon Valley.
CalPoly for engineering is not safety. Match at best.
Thanks everyone for the words of advice! @paul2752 @bambi0611 I realize my SAT is low, so to remedy this I am taking the ACT next month. I think I will do much better because I actually got a prep book and worked through it all summer. Also, speed is my strong suit, and from my understanding, the ACT is a lot faster paced.
In answer to @foxtroll , I go to a small, highly ranked, academics-focused charter school. Not very competitive (no class ranks, no weighted GPAs). Very rigorous curriculum but only like 4 APs offered. I took all of them, and also took CC classes during the summer and school year.
Also, I am legacy for HMC, do yall think that helps at all.
@ballerina16 Lastly, I am female, does this help or hinder my chances of being accepted into an engineering program?
Yes it does. But still remember that CalPoly SLO engineering is as selective as top UCs, especially if you do not apply ED, so make sure you add more safety schools to your list.
For HMC you need to have high math scores. What is your SAT math2 and math component of SAT?
