Chances for Exeter?

@ImWaisian The math section does not go past Algebra 1 and there will be geometry. Have you taken geometry yet?

The upper level exam is meant to test students from the 8th grade through 11th grade, meaning that you could possibly receive passages that an 11th grader might find challenging.

There is social studies, fiction, humanities, and science. The fiction passages, as well as poetry are typically the most difficult ones so it’s best to stay clear of them until the end.

Also, can you inference well? Some questions will ask you to inference.

The most difficult part is timing. 40 questions in 40 minutes and mind you, you also have to take a minute or two to read the passages, so you actually have less than a minute to answer the questions and some of them require more time than others.

@YoungThriver Thank you. I have taken both algebra 1 and geometry so I should be fine on math but I will be sure to review the English passages and do more example problems!

@ImWaisian Have you taken any practice tests yet? I took precalculus in the 8th grade so I didn’t study for the math potion of the exam, thinking that I was going to easily score in the 99th percentile. That didn’t happen. I only scored in the 88th percentile (776/800). The math curve is the most brutal. You should up on some old skills.

@YoungThriver I have reviewed almost all of Alg 1 and 2 for my SAT a few months ago but I will be sure to review the geo. Thanks!

@ImWaisian The verbal section probably has the easiest curve out of all of them. I got a 773/800 which placed me in the 93rd percentile. Study as many as many words as you possibly can before the test. I highly recommend this set I discovered earlier:

@YoungThriver Thanks for all the help!

If you are going to look at Mercersburg, you should also look at Peddie.

Best wishes!

@Altras 97% ssat, do you think my chances will be better now?

SSAT scores aren’t the deciding factor in all of this but that is an impressive score. It’s not a weakness for sure.

Congrats! and, did you take the January SSAT exam?

@ImWaisian Excellent score…congrats! Breathe a deep sigh of relief. Your score won’t get you in, but it will unquestionably not keep you out. You are a great candidate. It just comes down to how many niches you fit and how well you fit them compared with other candidates. If you only applied to PEA, that’s a lot of eggs in one basket; but if you applied more broadly, I have no doubt you’ll have a great M10. I’ll be rooting for you either way. =D>

@Altras @YoungThriver Thanks, both of you! Waiting for that score was extremely worrying :)) :)) but it is good to know the score is good, and yes, I did

Sending you a pm

@Altras : “Unfortunately, another “Chance me” response to be completely disregarded.”

Maybe not completely
