Chance me please? (Andover & Exeter)

Hi, I'm applying to Andover and Exeter. This is my first time posting on these forums, so I'm a bit freaked out. D:
But here I go...

I'm in 8th grade, and applying for 9th. My parents and I are Asian, if you care to know. x)
But don't worry, I can speak English just fine, to clear up any stereotypes that are out there. (:
I haven't been held back, and never skipped a grade. (I'm 13.)

I go to a higher-end public school in Boston, MA. (It ranked one of the top 5 best public schools in the Boston Magazine)

I retook the SSAT's (My previous average percentile was a 92%) and here are my new scores:

Verbal Score 770
SSAT Percentile 97%
Math Score 776
SSAT Percentile 96%
Reading Score 722
SSAT Percentile 92%

Total Score 2268
SSAT Percentile 98%

For the past three years, I've gotten straight A's.
This year (eighth) for the first quarter, I've gotten all A's and one A- in English.
I'm in advanced placement for math. (:

I've been playing the violin for five years, and for about four hours a week. I take private lessons, and I'm in the school orchestra.
I've also recently started the bassoon (weird, I know, ahaha) about a month ago, and I've been practicing it for about four hours a week like the violin.

The only sport I do (I know, I should do more. >_<) is swimming, but I'm on a VERY competitive team, and I've been swimming for nine years, and swimming competitively since I was seven.
I swim for about 11 hours a week. (2.5 hour practices/meets 4-6 days a week)
And my favorite stroke is breastroke, and my favorite event is the 200 IM.

I think my interviews and tours went pretty well. I made my interviewers laugh a lot, which I hope is a good thing.

.. And that's pretty much it. I know I'm not amazing and special, and I haven't visited some country on the other side of the world to save the endangered pandas or anything, but if you could chance me for Andover and Exeter, it would be awesome. =D

Thanks so much, & have a happy Christmahannukwanzadan (that should cover everyone)!

Extra tips and help would be loved. (:

Just saying something here: it’s not the quantity of the EC’s so much; it’s the quality. A blend of the two make you stand out. SSAT scores…better than mine X( (just kidding), grades are superb. You’re all set academically, and you should add to the schools. Do you have any community service? Any other back-ups just in case?

what makes you different from any other asian.

@ AlexMac:
My parents are against me applying for private high schools in general (I know, weird right?) because the public school I would go to for 9th grade is actually pretty good. x)
So they’re insisting on these two. xD
I haven’t done any community service, but I’m planning to in the Spring.
… Which is a bit late, ahaha.

@ Adammarxino:
Hmmm, well I have friends and a social life? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: No racism intended.
And I’m good at English, ahaha.

?! you retook after getting a 92 percentile overall? seriously?

hahaha i play the bassoon too, can’t say im very good at it though.

as for chancing, i’m terrible at that, but you look like a great candidate. best of luck!

@ DiveAlive:
My Asian parents thought that a 92 was unacceptable. x]

Yeah, whenever I play the bassoon, I sound like an elephant farting, ahaha.

And thanks, good luck to you too!

Anyone else? (:

Just a Question here-What if one has a lot of EC’s (5-6) for 3-4 Years. Wouldn’t that show the AO’s that that applicant is open to new things? If That is a minimal amount of Years, what if that person spends 15-20 Hours a week participating in those activities, and highlighting his or her passion in the Essays, but not overly? How do the AO’s view that Applicants EC’s then? Thanks, and I think You have a good chance even though You are Asian (No Racism Intended) but You would have a better chance if You were a URM (Under-Represented Minority) or Spoke an uncommon language (a Hook). Best Of Luck To You!

AO’s want to see EC’s of quality blended with quantity. They also want to see you’re well-engaged to somethings and stick to some activities whil trying some new ones. So a couple or so EC’s should be 5+ years while some others should be more recent.

You must be ashamed of your Asian parents! Tsk, tsk, I thought they would be in favor of the applications ;).

@ Exeterrr: I have no idea, but good luck! (=
@ AlexMac: My asian parents are…
not very normal, ahaha.

Hey Fiona it’s your MCR buddy
of course you have a good chance because you’re a really good swimmer and have a lot of EC’s just kill your essays and you have a great chance

@ pepperjke:
OMG MCR.
Thank you so much! ^^
And I’m actually not that amazing at swimming, ahaha. But thank you anyway. (:

I think you have a very good chance, own those essays!
I’m going to add a smiley face, I hope this works :D

I’d strongly suggest you to not post your name in any of these forums. Keep that in mind.

If you ever do NOT get accepted is because you live in Boston.
I am applying for 11th grade and I lived in Lebanon and Tunisia, and I am still facing difficulties!

Thank you. (:

@Ang: Agh, you’re right. xD

You clearly are well-rounded and your academics are stronger than most of the people accepted at those schools (SSAT percentile is higher than the average posted on the website). Since you seem like a cool person, I assume your essays, recommendations and interview are also excellent. Overall, I think your chances of getting accepted are pretty high. :)

@ Skisoccer2014: ego inflates
Thank you! (:

Bump (:

I hope you get accepted, the only thing, if I noticed correctly is you are asian(No racism intended), the problem is there are so many asian people applying to these schools, that the schools, you could say are overwhelmed. They want diversity. This doesnt mean you wont get accepted, you are an awesome student, and I hope you do get accepted
