Interested in majoring in Philosophy, English, Classics or Psychology

I don’t mean to sound snarky, but what do you do for fun? Or are you all about winning competitions? What makes you smile and enjoy life?

Fencing is a negative at Wash U. They don’t have a team and the athletic coach doesn’t like fencing. He kicked the fencing club off campus by taking away their practice room. So now the Wash U fencers practice at SLU. If you want to go to Wash U, minimize the fencing aspect of your application.

Your stats look pretty good, though of course there are so many intangibles its hard to tell, but you’re definitely within range. Make sure to write a good essay!

I just want to ask, since you say you go to an IB school, what are your IB predicted grades? (If you don’t have one officially, what score do you think you will approximately be predicted at?)

Also, keep in mind, whether requiring financial aid or not will also play a large factor.

Sorry, I meant to say ‘athletic director’ not coach. I am a national medalist in fencing and we are from Missouri. I know the fencing scene here pretty well. My mom talked to the athletic director about fencing at Wash U and what he told her just wasn’t true. Do your homework if you want to fence in college.

It is sad that Wash U doesn’t have an NCAA fencing team. They are one of the few top rated universities that doesn’t.

Competitive fencing in STL is getting stronger through a club called The Fencers Academy. They have an internationally accredited coach.

Hope that helps if you get into Wash U and want to fence at the club level.

Sorry, I hope I didn’t come off as a soulless kid. I am pretty laid back, I like to read, write, have fun and am extremely uncompetitive. I just wanted to get to the meat of the issue.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I’m not really great at fencing, I just do it for fun so club level is fine.
