Chances for Harvard admissions

These are my sister’s scores. She is applying to Harvard, and I want to see if the chances are in her favor.

Grade 9- CBSE board- GPA: 9.8/10
Grade 10- CBSE Board- GPA: 10/10

Grade 11 and 12- IB curriculum: Mostly A*, As, nothing lower. Predicted score- 43/45

Here are her test results-

Math level 2- 800/800
Physics and Chemistry- 800/800

She is a national merit scholar, and was a finalist, and obtained a massive scholarship.

She has published a book of short stories and poetry
She has been published in a few honorary magazines
She has published 2 ebooks of poetry on amazon

She topped her district in the Spelling bee, and reached the international level, as organized by spellbee international
She is the editor and writer of her school’s magazine and journal
She has been learning piano for 10 years. She has reached grade 6, and was one of the highest in her city in the grade 5 practical.
She received scores of 96-100% in all her theory exams- until grade 6

She passed an examination at Alliance Francais with flying colors.
She has obtained admirable state ranks in the Mathematics Olympiads, and city rank of 13 in an aptitude competition.

Her essay is a stellar one, and she has around 7 excellent recommendation letters from teachers at school and from the classes she has taken.

Can you please weigh her chances, and see if she is good enough to get admitted, if not with a scholarship?

No one can be sure about a Harvard acceptance. But I and many others would be pretty surprised if you sister does not get it. She has everything going for her. Her stats are par excellence and better than those of most accepted applicants. All the best.

She definitely has a chance tone admitted. Unfortunately Harvard is a reach school for everyone due to its extreme acceptance rate. I believe she will get in because her ECs stand out over everyone else’s and that she also has an amazing academic background. Mind commenting back the link to her writing? And can you chance me? I put a link below. Good luck!

It’s amazing how similar your sister’s record is to yours of just two days ago.

Thank you all! Yes, JustOneDad, my parents put both of us into the same classes, and the same school. She’s my role model, but has a lot more accomplishments than I do.

Maybe you should just wait to see if she gets in to Harvard, which might give you some indication as to where your application stands. You’re a Sophomore, right?

Her stats look good and her ECs are pretty good too;however, she is an international student.

First of all for her stats, they are amazing but ot seems like in India massive test prep is very common so those scores might be discounted. Her courses seem great, and her scores are too.

In terms of ECs, bring published is cool, but it looks like either a small publication or self published. Anyone can post anything on amazon(ebooks wise). The math conpetition rank of 13th in the city is just mediocre(for H anyway) and most of the other stuff is common.

As an international applicant Id say she is above average but not a massive standout. Low-mid reach Id say.

Score look good. But ECs are mediocre for Harvard standards. Need something of international notoriety to stand out at Harvard admissions.

Thanks for your advice! She has also applied to Berkeley, Stanford and UCLA. Can you tell me what her chances are for admission there?

Dear rredr0p,
I didn’t quite understand what you meant when you said ‘those scores might be discounted’. What exactly are you referring to?

Chances are not great for Berkley, UCLA or Stanford either. She has great scores for Berkley and UCLA terms, but they give preference to california residents. If she applies as a full-pay international then she might have a shot.

Stanford is about as difficult as Harvard to get into, so the same applies.

Why doesn’t she consider some lower ranked schools and a few safeties?

She has a lot of safeties, sgopal2. Thank you for your reply!
My sister does not exactly have a SMALL publication. She sent her work to a well known publishing house, and they agreed to publish it, after months of editing and work. It’s for sale in several bookstores. Will this make a significant difference to her application?

Hey guys! My sister got into Harvard!

Congratulations to your sister

No one on here is going to give you an accurate ‘chance’.

What I don’t see is why you want to go to Harvard exactly.

If you guys are just applying to Harvard for its name or prestige, I have nothing else to say but may the odds be ever in your favor.

@StanfordSwag It looks like she did get into Harvard. See the post above yours.

Actually…she got deferred
