Chances for IChO gold medalist ?

so far not many comments so pls again chance him !!!
As a parent, I'm anxious about the chances.

My son got deferred from Stanford SCEA, and am wondering
one big reason might be that he applied for big FA
as an international applicant.

So what are my son's chances at other schools he's applying to ?

Caltech
Cornell
Harvard
Johns Hopkins
MIT
Princeton
Stanford

He wants to major in chemistry or Bio-Chem.

He is an Asian with Canadian citizenship and applying for big FA.
Attending one of the most competitive private schools in Canada.
They offer ony 3 APs and all others are honors classes and
he took all of rigorous courses.
They had 1 gold medal, 2 silvers of IChO,1 bronze of IPhO,
1 silver of IBO in 2006 and 1 gold of IChO and 1 bronze of IMO in 2007
and they send around 10% of applicants to top schools in USA and
the rest goes to top Canadian schools.

Thx

U of T school? Gordon?

Dang hes qulified. I am no expert, but he should get into most of them. Can't belive stanford deferred him. What are they looking for?

duke of e for 4 years? when a majority of the people complete it in 2 years? weird.

SAT scores aren't that good for Stanford. i don't see any particular dedicated ECs apart from music.

In at cornell w/money and john hopkins (no money for internationals). Possibly in at Princeton and MIT. Harvard No.

If he has good essays/interviews, he should def. be in many of these schools. The SAT score will drag him down a bit, but since most schools aren't even considering the writing section right now, he should be fine. I'm especially impressed by the fact that he placed at IBO, IMO, and IChO. In the states, it is very difficult to qualify, let alone place.
I also think he has strong ECs. Good luck!

yea its pretty ridiculous that he placed for all those olympiads

i think we misunderstood you. his school is the one with all those olympiad qualifiers, not him right?

He is an IChO gold medalist with excellent SAT scores (especially if you just look at M and CR, as some schools do - 1560/1600). SAT IIs and class rank are also outstanding. I don't understand why some people are saying his stats are not quite up to par. He seems very accomplished. While I have no idea what his chances at any particular school are, I'd hope he'd get into some on his list. However, they are all top-level schools, and the lack of any safety schools is troubling.

I always thought a 2250 was good enough, so that standardized test scores can no longer hurt you. Harvard's average is around a 2250.

An international's ability to pay is one of Stanford's admissions criteria.

where did he end up getting in?
