Chances to top schools with gold medal of international chemistry olympiad

Thanks for many nice comments to the question of gold medal for international olympiad.

My son is one of 4 Canadian members and they got 1 gold and 1 bronze medal
from 39th international chemistry olympiad which was held in Russia from July 15th to 24th.
From what I know, USA team got 3 silvers and 1 bronze medal.

He is Grade 11 and he'll apply this September for early action to Stanford and
Harvard, MIT, caltech, princeton, Johnshopkins and Cornell for regular.

His some academic and extra activities are as follow.
He is attending the most selective private school in Canada.
They don't have GPA, but he got all of them, A and A+.
and his scores are up-trend from grade 9 to 11.
They don't have any regular courses and he took all of Honors and 3 APs which is the only AP courses in school and it looks he is one of top 3 or 4 among 100 students.

SAT:2,110 on Jan. 2006 which is very low and he'll try it again this Oct. 2007 and aiming at around 2,300+
3 AP tests: Chemistry 5, Physics B 5, Calculus BC 5
SAT subject:Math BC 800, Physics 790, Chemistry 800

He has been playing violin for around 10yrs, but not the top player.

I really appreciate your comments on chances for top schools.

that's the first time i've seen someone put a comma on an SAT score, but anywho....

i think your son would have an excellent shot at all the schools he applies to. his awards are outstanding, as are his subject test scores. my only worry would be his SAT score. A 2110 is a great score, but lower than most harvard, Mit, princeton, etc applicants. besides that, the rest of his resume is incredible.

your son is in at every school he applies to.

Stop bragging, you know damn well your son has a better chance than most people.

I think he is in Stanford EA and will make it to every other colleges. It is weired though that his SAT1 is so low. With such an accomplished achievements SAT1 should have been much higher. It might be the CR/Writting. So my guess is that your child is Asian/Middle East origin, still I think he is in with (800, 650, 660) SAT1.

He's probably in, as you know considering this is the second time you have posted this. But I can tell that english is not your native language by how you type...what is your son's native language? 2110 just seems low for an international olympiad champ, perhaps a language barrier?

The reason why his 1st SAT score was so low is that he didn't take seriously the 1st SAT test and he's working very hard on taking 2nd SAT this Oct. 2007.

The point was that if a child is so accomplished then he should not need to study for SAT1. But it seems that he might not be as strong in humanities as he is in Science/Math, which is a typical Asian/Middle East feature.
That might means that he was not taking as strong classes in Humanities as he was in the science/math domain.

But even with that imbalance, if he is aiming for sciences he should be in at colleges of his interests.

He's definitely not automatically in at every school. No body is auto-admit to Harvard *and*MIT. A 2110 is not good enough, even with loads of ECs. Plus, this student is an international applicant. (Why we still consider Canada a foreign country is beyond me...)

EDIT
Nevermind, didn't read thread closely enough.

yeah. unless english's not the native language for your son then anyone with his kind of (academic) resume and apparent intelligence should get the SAT 1 right the first time. Hey I got 2320 on my first try only half-heartedly studying for the three days before the test, but my ECs weren't good enough for many schools which I still regret about my life but it shouldn't be a problem for your kid.

....
My friend was an IChO silver medalist. Got into harvard, MIT, columbia, stanford, etc. etc. no rejects, no waitlists. 3.9 GPA, 2200 SAT.

Your son is in at Harvard and MIT provided he writes a solid essay.

I have a friend who got into Princeton with a silver medal in physics at an international olympiad ("Tuymaada" from the Republic of Sacha, Yakutzia in Russia, in case they have told them in Moscow about this prestigious Russian olympiad) and had lower SAT scores than your son, so I really don't think he will have any problem in getting in. By the way, congratulations from an aspirant to the same medal:)
