Chances for Ivy Day

Here is an update: rejected at Duke, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard and Brown. It was hard to get all of those rejections back to back but I am feeling better every day. Still deciding on where to go: We are visiting Rice next week and Wash U is actually flying out us at a few days later. I think it will come down to those 2, although I am still waiting on Emory’s financial aid package.

Sorry you had those disappointments BUT you have some really fabulous options to choose from! Congratulations on your acceptances.

Oof - sorry about the painful day. The choices you do have are just as good as the ones you don’t have, but it’s still no fun to get a string of denials. Nonetheless, you wouldn’t have gotten merit money from any of those. The offer from Rice, between the larger merit scholarship and their slightly-lower sticker price, sounds pretty compelling, and it’s a great place to go in undecided. The residential college system is fantastic. Also great that you have Emory as a close-to-home but equally top-notch option. I’d encourage you to ignore the relative rankings - there’s truly no meaningful difference among #14, #17, and #21. These are all elite schools; go for the best fit and the best value. You really can’t go wrong - congratulations!!!

Thank you!

Thank you! I’m really excited about the residential college system at Rice. I am hoping that once we visit Rice, Wash U (and Emory again) it will become clear to me which one to go to. Right now- sight unseen- my heart says Rice.

Tough day, tough year. But you have done great and have some stellar choices. My DS is checking out Rice next Monday too. Hope you both really like it.
