Chances for Ivy League, MIT, Berkley and UChicago

I don’t think anyone is chancing because you haven’t given any information about your academics or extracurriculars. You just told us a story about how difficult your situation was this May.

Best of luck though!

oh, nevermind I started on the SECOND page. xD
You have nice grades.

I was thinking some safeties would be Syracuse University, as all my college classes senior year were taken there, and maybe Boston College, a lot of legacy.

Any other safeties/ Matches that anyone can think of.

I’m not really good at these, but you’re community service hours are very impressive. I think you should be able to get accepted by at least 3 of these schools, but you might want to add a few safeties. Unfortunately, many of these schools are reaches for everyone, no matter what you’re stats are

Okay thanks

Cornell is a good shot being a resident of Ithaca, Ny! All these schools will be tough, but your definitely competitive!

Harvard: High Reach
MIT:Reach
Yale:Reach
Princeton:Reach
Columbia:Low reach
Cornell:Low reach
Brown:Low reach
Dartmouth:Low reach
UPenn:Low reach
Berkley:Match
UChicago:match

Don’t be intimidated by others on here, I think you’ve got a really good shot; you’re an amazing student!! :)

Thank you

UCB: Great chances
Cornell: Solid chances

All others are reach…

Admit rate<10% means you need to be lucky.

If you live in Ithaca then Cornell might as well be a Safety for you. I looked at their acceptance rates from IHS and the average accepted GPA was like a 3.52 on Naviance.

Dude your stats and extracurriculars are pretty darn amazing. I think you have a great chance at many top universities, so good luck, and I hope you do great!

Thank you very much :))

To start, it’s really hard to chance anyone if all of their schools are Ivy League or Tier-I schools, because top universities like that are like the lottery: you never know if you’ll get in.
I’ve seen a girl with a shiny and perfect application getting rejected by Yale (but she ended up going to UVA, which is still an excellent school), and another boy who is Asian and could barely speak English get into Princeton. It all just comes down to the personal statements, your teachers’ recs, and whether or not the admissions officers are in a good mood.

But, just basing the predictions off of your stats, I think you will be a competitive candidate. However, to be safe, just make sure you have something that make you stand out, since colleges see similar stats everyday.

Another thing: don’t get intimidated by others on here. College admissions officers do not compare you to other students since they look at a candidate holistically, so neither should you!

Good luck. :)

Chance me back? <a href=“Chance me for Georgetown and West Point? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1658966-chance-me-for-georgetown-and-west-point-p1.html</a></p>

@existential12 How could Cornell be a safety?

I really cannot believe the chances people are giving you. With the number of APs this person has taken, a 2310/2400, Intel Finalist, multiple varsity sports, starting a business, I can’t understand how Cornell would be considered a high reach. At this point it should be considered a high match. At my school, kids in Varsity sports were getting in with 3.5s and 1900 SATs.

Everything except Berkeley is a reach, but Cornell and possibly Dartmouth may be lower reaches.

@Cosmological Because as more people see Cornell and Dartmouth as the “easy Ivies” more people are going to apply to them and expect to get into the. If more people apply, the acceptance rate goes down, thus, making them more elite. Also there have been students on here who are just as qualified with Intel and google science fairs under their belt and 2400 on the SAT with 4.0 GPAs who have been rejected from Cornell.

Harvard, Yale, Princeton ---->High Reaches
Columbia, Brown, UPenn, MIT —> Reaches
Cornell, Dartmouth—>Matches

Also depends which schools you are applying to (engineering vs arts/sciences)

@AnnieBeats As I said before if you live and go to school in Ithaca NY Cornell has lower acceptance standards. And I think I saw that the original poster lived and went to school in Ithaca NY.
