@existential12 To the point that they become safeties? That’s ridiculous

@AnnieBeats Yes. As I said before on Naviance the Average GPA of acceptance to Cornell from IHS was a 3.68 UW. Most colleges like having a connection with the community and since Ithaca has a pretty small non student population this is pretty important for Cornell. Acceptance rate this year was 49%.

Cornell has a very cool ornithology gardens, and the campuses is entirely run on renewable resources.

I’m sure you’ll get into a fair share of these schools, however your ECs are kinda weak for these top schools. A unique essay or strong admission interview could help you out

^ECs are definitely not weak. OP is an intel Finalist, and a siemens finalist. I probably chanced a bit harshly. You can probably bring my chances down a tier each.

I think among top tier schools, we can say
HYPSM are the most selective
Columbia, Penn, Chicago, and Brown are in the next band of selectivity
Then Duke, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Northwestern are in the last echelon of selectivity.

Thanks for chancing, anybody else?

Anyone

You seem like a great candidate for these schools but because of their caliber they will all be reaches. While some such as Cornell and Berkeley would be low reaches, you need to find some matches and safeties to add to your list.

First off, your SAT score is great as well as your GPA, however your SAT subject scores are kind of low. You usually want to have them 780 or higher when applying to these schools. I don’t remember if you have to send 2 or 3 for Harvard, but if 3, you should try to retake one. When the admissions officers see your AP scores, they will be questionable as to whether or not you can handle the type of work at these colleges. Especially since you have intel and siemens awards, its odd that you only have 2 5s in math and science APs. But the 4s and 5s are good, but the threes might hurt you, I might not even send them since you already have a lot of APs to send. Your extracurriculars seem good, but I’m not sure what kind of leadership positions you have. It would look odd to be on three sports teams and not be captain of any of them, or as an aspiring science major to be on science olympiad and not have a leadership position. However, the intel and siemens are great, as well as the music ecs and volunteering.
Harvard: High Reach
Yale: High Reach
Princeton : High Reach
Columbia : Reach
Cornell : Match
Brown: Match
Dartmouth : Match
UPenn: Match
MIT: Low Reach
Berkeley : Low Reach
U Chicago : Reach

Also your chances at Harvard will significantly improve if you apply early, they had a 21% acceptance rate for EA, and Princeton had a 18% rate. Also consider adding some safeties like Stony Brook, Northwestern, U of M, U of I, UVA. Also why not include Stanford, they have a great science program. Best of Luck!

Thank you very much. I was thinking of retaking the SATII’s that were low, and most of the junior year AP’s, and World History. The problem was that I had to do them all in one day because of the ISEF Fair I was in California during the normal time to take them. Athletics aren’t very important at my school, so skiing is a county sport because no one has enough people for the team, and since my school doesn’t host it I can’t be captain. The golf coach.so son is in my grade, so he’s captain. I came to this school in ninth grade, so the people that did modified have a better chance for xcountry, but I could be captain.

@spiritkoi @sonofgod What makes Yale less of a reach than Harvard and Princeton?

The reason that Cornell posts lower stats than other colleges is that they have several divisions that are not academically selective (most notably their Ag School). If this student is interested in Engineering, then Cornell is almost as selective as other schools on the list.

Frankly, all of these schools are reaches for you. They are extreemly selective and while you are impressive, there is no way of knowing where you stand. The problem is that all of this schools with the exception of MIT are either ivy leauges or state schools that prioritize residents. Either way I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks!

It’s impossible to take 3 or 4 APs in a day. The most you can take is two because 1) they’re each four hours long, and 2) they only administer them at two different time slots (look at your AP booklet). Physics C is the only exception.
