Chances for Ivy League Schools and others?

@Ghana1996‌ ohhh okay gotcha! I’m just over here kicking myself because my creds are no where near the perfection of yours and I’m applying to some of the schools you are. How did you study and do so well on the sat if u don’t mind me asking.

@youngm0rphine for the SAT I started studying the year before my Junior year because I was upset with my
PSAT score. What me and 2 friends did was pitched in $7 dollars each so we could buy the giant 10 practice test SAT review book. No one wrote in the book,we passed the book around every 2 weeks, and we took all the exams on separate sheets of paper. I started out getting low 2200s because I was so bad with my essay and grammar. But I gradually improved with practice. For the reading portion, I really focused on vocab and found a quizlet with some 2000+ vocab words.Math was always the easiest section for me if I could read quick enough. Overall, I would say practice with REAL SATs and you should be good for less than $7

I agree about applying to some backup schools that offer merit aid (look up the thread on CC) if your parents can’t really afford to pay that much. You are a very accomplished person, and I’m sure you’ll get into most of the colleges here, but cost comes first, you need to make sure they are affordable

@Ghana1996 awesome! thanks for the help

The stats & hooks you give are even more impressive than Kwasi Enin, but you are posting on CC asking ‘do you other applicants think that I can get in?’ I am torn between thinking that you are showing off and thinking that you are a ■■■■■ (a 2390/2400 on the SAT, with a faux-humble “I always get messed up by the essay”?!).

But for the heck of it, your standardized test scores are what counts at Oxford but a) no meaningful scholarships and b) you can do bio OR physics, but not both.

And, not to be pedantic, but if you already have 5s in AP Calc BC and Physics, why are you studying them again?

@collegemom3717 I am trying to become the AP state scholar of California. That requires me to take the most amount of APs possible and score the highest on those exams. That’s the only reason why I have been self studying courses. I hope that I wasn’t obnoxious when I wrote my SAT scores because I probably would have gotten a perfect score if not for my essay(my writing skills are terrible compared to my math skills). I am asking others because I am new to the American System of Universities and desperately need help with financial aid.Sorry if I seemed disingenuous. And is Kwasi Enin the guy who was a good athlete and a good student right?

Kwasi enin got into every Ivy League, his profile was impressive and he was a URM. Your profile in my opinion is even more impressive and with your urm status I’d say you should get into most top schools as well.

@theanaconda‌ I am not going to go apply to every Ivy because I think some are overrated.(not to hurt anyone’s’ feelings but I think Dartmouth is overrated). Enin looks like he is a better candidate because from the article I just read he was great at sports, academics, choir, and band along with some killer ECs.

Alright I checked with a few websites and @ Harvard I would have to pay $7,400.Still a lot of money, but manageable.Maybe I can get FAFSA

I think your set, UT Austin will likely give you full ride if you apply and end up being an AP state scholar. Do you plan on playing sports in College? Either way, you are the ideal college applicant. You should probably tell me how you self studied so many APs. And if you want to cement your AP state Scholar, take AP Art History too.

good luck!

@Ghana1996 Yeah a lot of people (including myself) think it’s pretty dumb to apply to every ivy, there really is no reason to, they’re different in someways and there are other top schools if you’re going for prestige. Regardless I’m confident you’ll get into at least some (possibly most) top schools. 7400 doesn’t sound too bad, good luck.

Well you can apply to all 8 Ivy + Stanford/MIT and try to upstage the guy who got in last time.

@Ghana1996‌

This is most likely a ■■■■■, since someone with the intelligence to get a 4.0, rank first in his class, 2390 sat and a 36 is going to be smart enough to know that he/she has maximized all chances to get into these places. If its just a brag post and this is all true, then good on you, if I had done this insanely well in school (and in life) I’d do the same thing!

Even in these times, I would still say that it is fair to bank on getting into multiple ivies in your case. Having just completed the cycle and seeing who got in with citizenship/background in Ghana, you have their stats and more. If you ended up sweeping the ivies, I wouldn’t be surprised, but if you only got into 1 or 2, I would’t be surprised either. Its just a crapshoot.

I would suggest also applying to UVA’s Jefferson Scholar program. You would be a complete lock to UVA as it is now, and probably would have a high chance of getting into the scholar program, which people choose over HPYS due to its strengths.

@thebanshee I am not a “■■■■■,” as I am really concerned about financial aid.

How can your GPA be a 4.0UW and 5.0W? That means you’ve only taken AP courses throughout your high school career

You are all set in terms of both admissions and financial aid! A lot of the top schools are pretty hit and miss with acceptance, but with stats like yours you WILL be admitted into at least some of your top choices… Don’t worry a bit about financial aid either. A lot of the schools on your list have no loan policies, and because you are a lower income family you’ll get great aid! At Princeton for example, a family making 60-80k gets an average grant of about 50k a year (full tuition+70% room and board costs), and considering that you have four siblings and your a non citizen I think that makes it likely that you will get even more. With your stats I think it’s pretty likely that you will get awesome scholarships no matter what. Don’t worry you will be fine!
BTW… I created an account just because I wanted to answer this question… make sure you look into universities with no-loan programs(most ivy league schools have one)

@BBTWD1885‌ schools have different ways of weighting GPA. for example at my school you are awarded 4 points for an A in a regulars class, 5 for an A in an honors class, and 6 for an A in an AP Class, so its very easy to get a 5.0 or higher.

@BBTWD1885 at my school GPA is as follow:90-100=4.0UW and if its AP or Honors you get 5.0W. Plus class rank is decided by the weighted numerical so I can get all As but if there low As then my rank would be less.

^#(^ :-" [-O< ;)) :)] :-* :-& :ar! :-@ :bz ^#(^ <:-P :x

What is the point of this Chance Me? Ego boost? OP, you know you have as good of a chance as anyone to get in. Just keep doing what you are doing and you’ll be fine.
