Chances for Ivy League?

Semi-Long Read

Hello guys. I'm a current junior, who has high hopes of getting into an Ivy League college, especially UPenn, my dream school.

I currently have a 4.6 weighted and 4.0 non-weighted GPA. I have not taken the SAT, but am taking it twice this year.

My current schedule is AP/BC Calculus, Business/Entrepreneurship, AP US History, and English 11 first semester. Second semester is AP Psychology, AP/BC Calculus, Accounting, and Sat Prep/Managing personal finances (almost no decent classes fit in that block)

I've completed chemistry, biology, and ab physics (all honors), but can't stand science so didn't take any this year. I plan on going into finance, hence why UPenn is my top choice.

Senior year I plan on Calc 3, AP Language/Composition, Stat and prob, AP Stat and Prob, possibly an AP science, and unsure for last 2 blocks.

E.C.'s (Weak-Advice Needed!):
Baseball (2 years of high school)
Church Confirmation Peer Minister
Mu Alpha Theta
FCA Leader
Guitar (Nothing special)
Recreational Basketball

I know its hard to tell my chances without SAT, but any thoughts would be great.

P.S. I have had to deal with a disease at a very early age in my life. Is that good to put in college essays?

Thanks!

It’s wise to take the PSAT at least sophomore year to get an idea what you need to work on for the SAT.

I would say if you have a disability, either past or current, that could be an essay topic. I would not make it central unless it is very central to your life, maybe more of a turning point.

Your chances are pretty good, but lots of kids with your stats get turned away. I’d say if you can get your SAT to be 2200 or more, you should look at a few different Ivies to add to your list, and not hang your hat on only one.

It does seem that you must be at a private school to be taking AP Calc BC junior year, let alone advanced calc as a senior. I’m not sure how you could have taken three honors sciences before junior year - you do know that 8th grade and below do not count on a transcript?

Private school students tend to be at a disadvantage when applying to Ivies, because of diversity issues.

I’m not familiar with high schools that operate on semesters, it is especially illogical if you are taking AP tests in May, to finish up mid-school year (you didn’t mention AP scores - did you take any? did you take any SAT II subject tests, you should probably take at least two). I suggest you speak to a guidance counselor at your school as soon as possible, because your program seems very unusual yet you haven’t started on testing yet.

Actually, I go to a public school. I’ve been good at math my whole life, so I started alg 1 in 7th grade, geometry in 8th, alg 2 in 9th, pre-calc in 10th.

Also, I took ab physics 9th grade year, and took biology and chemistry in 10th grade.

I did take the PSAT last year, but didn’t really study or prep myself in any way. I got a 176, but I can definitely do better than a 1760 on the sat. I will also be taking the PSAT this year.

Thanks for the help!

**Forgot to mention in OP, I’ve taken Spanish for 4 years, all a’s

Will most likely be applying ED as well**
