I'm in state student with a 3.3 unweighted GPA (hoping to increase to around a 3.35-3.4 senior year). Sat of 1330 (reading + math). Act of 31. Varsity crew coxswain + boat captain for two years. Founding member and vice president of Debate Club that currently has over 60 members. Future Business Leaders of America member that competed on the state level. Red Cross volunteer work. Taken a total of 7 AP classes and 5 honors classes. Would really love to hear my chances as JMU is currently my top school.

I think you have a good chance, especially if you bring your GPA up during the first half of senior year (the final GPA for admissions purposes). My son got in RD with a 3.6 weighted GPA, 8 AP classes, a handful of honors classes, and about a 1270 (CR & Math) SAT score. Your activities are strong, especially that you went to the state level in something. Colleges like that. JMU values the strength of your curriculum above all else, and it sounds like you’ve challenged yourself sufficiently. They also like to see an upward trajectory in your grades – in otherwords, your strongest grades in the last two years to high school.
