Chances for Langsdorf Scholarship if lacking research experience

I am planning on applying for the Langsdorf Fellowship at WashU, but I have no formal research experience. I get the feeling that this component is extremely important for this scholarship, so I'm starting to wonder if I should bother applying at all (seeing as I have to leave the research experience box blank).

Anyone know how important it is?

Anyone know someone who has received this fellowship that didn't do research?

I might note that I have taken part in a selective technology internship at my school, and I plan to study computer or electrical engineering, but again, this is not formal research experience.

AFAIK, Langsdorf doesn’t require research (either to be accepted or to keep the scholarship once here). I know a few who had research experience in high school, but nearly all that I know had 0.

thank you!
