Chances for Medicine????

I've heard medicine is really competitive at mcgill.I'm not sure if I will apply to Medicine or The A&S school and focus on management. I know mcgill is known in medical research, but what about their management? Also, are you allowed to transfer between schools?

well here are the stats:
School is VERY competitive. One of newsweek's public elites. no rank.

Canadian Citizen(cheap tuition!!)
ACT:35
SAT :1470(M+V)
GPA: 3.78 UW(the problem is my freshman year was awesome...) junior gpa is 3.5, while sophomore gpa was 3.96)
4.78 W

Courses:
AP's completed- 4-Calculus BC, US History, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics,
3 - Psychology

Senior year courses:
Linear Algebra, AP Physics C E&M, AP english lit, east asian studies, ap euro, mentored research, government/economics, math problem solving 2

2nd semester: ordinary differential equations, abstract algebra, math problem solving 2, analysis of financial markets using ANOVA, AP English Physics C E&M, Globalization, AP English Literature, AP Euro

Mcgill is the perfect fit! I already go to a residential school so it's not like i'm afraid to live away from parents.

lol...I don't think McGill has a course in analysis of financial markets using ANOVA...What kind of public school is this??? We def. didn't have classes in abstract algebra or globalization.

Anyhow, I'm sure you could skip a year.

It's a math/science boarding school. The entire curriculum is basically college. haha the ANOVA course is with the stats teacher who used to be in IB. I would rather go to McGill faculty of management .. . how is the recruiting for USA investment banks?

^bad. Apply somewhere else. I mean, if you get really sick grades in the hardest possible classes you might do alright. UBS, Goldman Sachs and Lazard recruit, but they don't take many people at all, especially relative to the size of the school.

thanks 10 chars

To wutang: can CNI even apply to medicine this early?

to CNI: you're most likely in for any faculty (McGill doesn't look at your grade 9 grades, however). If you're interested in business, just apply directly to the faculty of management.

Good luck.

Is management easier than medicine? for application purposes at least?

i dont think you can apply to medecine as an undergrad if you are american

Management is way easier to get in than medicine. I heard from my lab partner who's in medicine that they accept way fewer applicants. But you look like a strong applicant. Inter-faculty transfer is permitted. However, I've never done it or considered so I don't know the details.

Apparently, unless you're coming from CEGEP, you can't apply for medicine directly from high school.

As for investment banking, all of the major investment banks recruited at McGill this year, except JPM. However, only a handful of students actually got offers. It's extremely competitive and you have to have pretty damn good grades to even have a chance. Each American bank will take one candidate from McGill and each Canadian bank will take 2 or so. Lazard Canada takes one person every year in Canada and it's been consistently from McGill. Most US banks like to recruit from McGill because we're well known in the States, although Ivey seems to be much more serious about their recruiting (they get a week or two off school just to prepare and do interviews while our profs don't really have any sympathy for this stuff). Finance isn't difficult, but there's a lot of competition so you really have to stand out.
