Chances for merit aid?

I'm seriously, seriously considering Syracuse, though Dartmouth is number one (and that could or could not change after our visits). BUT I know Syracuse won't meet 100% of your need, and that's a bit of a problem for my considering my family makes roughly 120K (though I do have a twin sister who will be applying to institutions that are just as costly). Having said that, some basic stats.

ACT: 33 (though retaking in September and hoping for a 34!)
Class Rank: 1/266
GPA: 5.17
President/founder of Model UN
Executive Editor on student newspaper
Academic Bowl Captain
several other things that aren't worth mentioning, some substantial volunteer work, and several major awards in Journalism and MUN.

I could go much more in depth with my other extracurriculars and awards, but I'm sure the scholarships are primarily based on numbers. Normally I wouldn't be asking, but the average stats of the scholarship recipients aren't on the site.

All I'm saying is, a 12K scholarship and 5K in loans/work study would bring down my family contribution to exatly where it should be. And if I have a good shot at a great scholarship, perhaps Syracuse becomes a top contender for me. Especially considering I'm also heavily considering majoring in Journalism which, although a great institution, Dartmouth certainly lacks.

That's it!

My daughter will be a junior at SU (in Newhouse); I think you're asking about the Founder's Scholarship. She received it and it's $12,000/year, meaning $6,000 per semester. Your stats are better than hers. Her ACT was 31 (although she only took it once and was happy), she was 10/470, and I can't remember her WGPA, but it was around a 4.1 out of 4.5. She was also news editor of their paper, and had a weekly guest column in the third largest daily in the Chicago area. I think you have an excellent shot at it. And there are a handful of full ride scholarships, but very, very few. Who knows? Your stats are commendable.

but at least they give $ to minorities and poor peeps. :)

I think you have a great shot @ the founder's. If you're going to be in the college of arts & sciences, i think there is another scholarship that you can be invited to try for, which can be a full scholarship... i do not know about particular scholarships for New House.

I got the founder's and your stats are better than mine with gpa, and slightly(quite slightly) worse with test scores.
