Anyways thanks again and if anyone has any ideas for other schools I am open to suggestions for other schools I could fit in at.
You have excellent stats. However, for MIT, you pretty much need to get your chem SATII test up to a 750 to have a shot. Vandy won’t require SATII test scores. Since your SATs are already great, you have a decent shot there. So much has to do with essays plus the complete picture, so look for more schools as well. All these schools are reach schools, so good luck. Since you are from Dallas and may have an engineering interest, consider TX A&M and Tulane.
Thanks for your input @Sam-I-Am I already applied to A&M and I added Washington at St. Louis. I researched Tulane but I don’t know if that is the type of school I am looking for. So for MIT should I not even complete the application unless I raise the SAT Chem Score or is there still some hope my other scores and grades can cover for it?
Washington University in St. Louis (not at St. Louis) is a low reach given URM and SAT/ACT scores. Plus they want a more diversified student body so if you have demonstrated interest, you could be a viable candidate. Make sure you get the school name correct though…
Decent AP scores could mask the SAT 2 Chem score. You didn’t list your AP scores in your chance me but you did list National AP Scholar. What are your scores? They could be a better indicator than that one Chem score.
hey @Hamurtle here is the complete list below:
AP Chemistry: 3
AP English Lit: 5
AP Environmental Science: 4
AP Physics 1: 3
AP Physics C: Mechanics-4
AP Statistics:3
AP Us History: 4
AP Biology: 3
AP Calculus BC:5
AP Calculus AB: 5
AP World History:4
AP Computer Science: 4
AP Human Geography: 5
Bit of a mix of scores i know but hope that helps
Yeah those scores are a giant mishmash. Calculus scores are great but Stats is average. It looks like the most consistent scores are in social sciences, which would make MIT a bigger reach.
I would say apply undeclared for Vandy, Rice, and WashU with an interest in history.
Think about Alabama Honors I’ve heard good things about the engineering school, and they give scholarship dollars supposedly! Though your application looks great, and I think you have good chance at Rice and Vandy! P.S. what score did you get on the PSAT, just wondering what commended is for Texas…
Yeah MIT is a high reach for anyone other than the kids with both perfect scores and major awards/distinctions. Still you could get in. Very good chances for Rice and Vandy.
Also I got a 1440 on PSAT which I think was barely commended for Texas. I got National Hispanic Scholar which I think the cutoff was somewhere around 1400. I understand MIT is a reach and I will have to write some really good supplemental essays for them to help my chances at all. I really liked the vibe of Rice when I did their flyout(yes I know a flyout for a couple hour drive down to Houston) and Vanderbilt I’m interested in highly as well. WashU has been more of a backup for me and I am unsure about applying undeclared to schools. I applied to Vanderbilt under engineering already as with Washington University but have yet to submit my MIT and Rice app. Would applying undeclared help or lower my chance?
