Chances for North Carolina and South Carolina schools

Hey guys,

Im a second semester Junior in North Carolina and I am putting together my college list. Here are my basic credentials (These are my grades for the END of my junior year, assuming I keep them at their current levels)

UW GPA: 3.0
W GPA: 3.5 (I screwed up my sophomore year and got a D in Honors Chem and in Spanish 2)
ACT: 28-29 (practice tests, I take it on March 3rd)
SAT: (depending on how ACT goes, may retake in June) 1540
CR 480
M 540
W 520

Classes: will graduate with 5 AP Classes (AP Econ covers micro and macro and I will take both tests)
Human Geo, Psych, Stat, Gov, Micro Econ, Macro Econ

Almost all honors when had the option. I think 4 total standard core classes.

ECs: Pretty strong, in my opinion
Lifegaurd over the summer
internship on US senate campaign
4 years student government
4 years habitat for humanity
co founder of special Olympics club at my school
co founder of a freshmen involvment club at my school
leader in local cancer charity

Recommendations: should be very good. I have very good relationships with most of my teachers

Okay so here is my big list of schools

UNC- Chapel Hill (dream school. I know i have close to no chance, but i have wanted to go there since I was little, so it cant hurt to send in an application)
UNC- Wilmington (High Match??)
UNC- Charlotte (Safety???)
East Carolina University (In State Safety)

Clemson (Reach?)
University of South Carolina (High Match?)
College of Charleston (???)
Furman (???)

Alabama (Low Match?)
Auburn (HIgh Match??)

Mississippi (Safety)

Thank you guys so much!!

I will chance back to the best of my ability. Provide link!!

I live in North Carolina and know a bit about the schools so hopefully I can help. Assuming you get a 28-29 ACT score like you believe you will, you will definitely get into most of these schools. Your strength of schedule is very good, as well as your extra curricular activities. The only thing holding you back is your GPA. If you can do really well this semester and first semester senior year, than I believe you will have a shot at Chapel Hill. Based on your stats right now I believe:

UNC- Chapel Hill - Deferred
UNC- Wilmington - Accepted
UNC- Charlotte - Accepted
East Carolina University - Accepted

Clemson - Deferred
University of South Carolina Accepted
College of Charleston - Accepted
Furman - Accepted

Alabama - Accepted
Auburn - Accepted

Mississippi - Accepted

If you could chance me back as well that would be much appreciated!

@charrunner1997 thanks! would you recommend I wait until regular decision to apply to Chapel Hill and Clemson so that I can submit my 1st semester grades? I was planning on applying everywhere early, but should I reconsider?

I feel like it would be best to consider it. Show these two schools that you have put in a solid year of work, and that you are not slacking off on your grades first semester. You may be able to apply to Clemson EA still, but I would reconsider on Chapel Hill if I were you. You have a good chance though, because you are an instate resident. @ntk131998

UNC-Chapel Hill (High Reach/Reach)
Clemson (Low Reach/ Reach)
Alabama(Probably you will get in)
For the other schools, I cannot chance you since I do not know a lot about them.
I think that GPA is your weakness. However, if you get a good SAT/ACT scores and write a well-polished essay, you can get to UNC-CH. So, keep dreaming and try to improve your academics as much as possible (Remember that NC residents have better chances than ordinary applicants).
Good luck with your application.

Auburn, 'Bama, and Mississippi are not safeties at this point. They are matches… strong match in the case of Ole Miss.
