Chances for Northwestern and more

I'm currently a junior and am curious as to my chances at these schools:
- Northwestern (my first pick I'd say due to their strong business program)
- Unv. Chicago
- Cornell
- UPenn (Another top pick, but it's just so high of a reach that I'm a bit skeptical)
- Notre Dame
- Columbia

AND I'M HISPANIC. I've heard being hispanic makes a small bit of difference at some of these schools, true or not?

SAT Estimations from practice tests:
2100+ SAT
750+ SATII Math
720+ SATII Chemistry
(One more probably, let me know if I should take one more)

GPA: Unfortunately, I believe that I might get 2 or 3B's on my Junior Year Semester.
Freshman year: 4.0 UW
Sophomore Year: 3.9UW/4.0UW
Junior Year: 2-3 B's/Try for all A's (So around 3.5-ish)

I know I come up weak in the GPA and a little with the SAT II's, but hopefully my very strong, focused, and dedicated EC's will make up for it.

I am entrenched in business and I pretty much live, sleep, eat, and breath business. I love innovation, and I just love hearing and trying to make a "dent in the universe" (hopefully some of you people got the quote ;) ) Specifically the technology side of business.

I have created 6 of my own mobile apps for Android, iOS, and Windows and turned a reasonable profit.

Started my own computer club last year. It's still alive.

Participated in several entrepreneurial courses offered out of school.

Started a game-computer company, which offers a gaming pc, and inside of it contains an XBox or PS3. It's super awesome and we turned a nice profit.

My other passion/focus is fencing. I am a rated fencer (which means that I'm not schmuck off the street and I have spent hours training, however, my rating is not the top rating. It is still VERY respectable though.)

I help the younger fencers in my club every Saturday.

Possible Essay Responses:
- I have had 10 surgeries over the course of my high schools years (mostly during the breaks), due to a bad condition in my chest. Each time was bad pain for 2 weeks. An obstacle I had to overcome.
- Talk about my business experiences.
- Talk about the time I was attacked by a pit bull and my first time experiencing true shock. (It felt like I was in a dream when it happened)

Also no legacies or anything/anyone connecting me to the universities. I could contact the fencing coach at these schools, but I don’t thin they’ll take me very far. I’m very curious. Thanks

If your Math II estimation was from Barron’s book, you’re likely to get an 800.

Your ECs are definitely a strong point. Your GPA looks fine to me, but maybe that’s just me. I personally think that getting a B is reasonable if the class is rather difficult/advanced/has a lot of workload/etc, etc.

Overall, a good chance with these schools, but it’s always hard to tell with selective colleges. No one can truly be a match for any of these, so that’s the best I can do.

Work towards getting a 4.0 average this year and the next, and try to push your SAT scores to at 2200+, but other than that I would say you’re a strong candidate for any of those schools. You’ve exhibited a strong passion and acted independently (starting your own business) while maintaining good grades and scores and that is perhaps one of the most desired traits for any college. Also, as a fencer, I suggest contacting the schools coaches and inquiring about the programs. Unlike with many other sports, these coaches are not always only going to select the very best athletes in the state for recruitment. Even if they are not interested in outright recruiting you, they can help you get in otherwise and often let you practice with the team when you start attending the school.

Chance me back please:

Thank you for your opinion. One of the classes I might get a B+ in is Ap Calc AB. I don’t want this to come off as an excuse, but I know it kinda will. Since I consider myself a strong math student, I decided to take a challenge and take Pre-calc over the summer. I didn’t realize that Pre-Calc helps transition you into the different kind of thinking involved in pre-calculus so all the concepts took me a little surprise. I do expect to get an A next semester now that I’m more used to the thinking involved. How do you think a B+ in AP Calc AB will look for Business program?

Thanks Smiikl. How much will it hurt my application having 2-3 (hopefully only 2) B’s on my Junior first semester report card? I feel I can almost limit the number of B’s to 1 (maybe zero depending on how my English AP Teacher feels about giving A’s). I’m taking all AP’s (and the hardest ones too, like AP Chem, AP Eng, and AP Calc with Spanish Honors) with 1 CP History class, which getting an A won’t be a problem.

So basically I’m asking, how much will 2-3 B’s hurt my applications from all A’s and only 1 B throughout fresh/soph year in AP Classes?

Being Hispanic definitely helps and those ECs are great. If you can finish up with a 3.8/3.9 overall and break 2100 you’re in at a lot of those schools

Thanks “ILoveMyMom” (nice name  ) how what about around a 3.7-3.8? And which school do you think I have the best chance right now?
