Most of us have very little idea how a 5.0 grading scale works. I tried to google it and gather some info, but there was very little that was helpful. One school district gave a grading chart that said a 96 is the equivalent of a 4.6 but I don’t know if that’s how your school district is using it.
It is just the same as a 4.0, but +1. 90-100 is a 5, 80-89 is a 4, with weighted taking honors and AP into account.
@kkornblum If that is the case, I’m afraid you don’t have a very good shot. The ACT score is at the bottom of the middle 50% of admitted students and your unweighted GPA would seem to indicate that you are an A/B student with a few more A’s then B’s. With a 33 on the ACT,. you would probably need to be pretty much a straight A student to have a decent shot or be in the top 1-2% in your class, but since your school doesn’t rank, we can’t tell if your performance compared to your peers would be beneficial.
I’m not suggesting you don’t have any chance, but I would say the chance is fairly low. If you were a legacy or had some kind of other hook, that would help.
If you applied to be in a scholars program, I know you can arrange to meet up with a student in the scholars program you’re considering. I’d bet that the same is true for honors. Contact the program coordinator.
