Obviously if you apply ED to NYU, you’ll have to live with the GPA you have now. A 3.4 weighted just isn’t high enough, and in truth, you don’t have enough time to improve it dramatically even for RD. Try Fordham EA.

fordham early action ?
what exaclty is the difference between early action / decision and what do you think my chances are at fordham ?
what exaclty are the differences / similarities between fordham / nyu

If Hofstra’s a no… What about St. John’s or Pace? Any of the SUNYs or CUNYs? Fordham, though it’s a reach too?

EA = Nonrestrictive, Due by Nov 1 (application, payment, all forms such as transcripts)
ED = Binding - if you get in you MUST go, it is legally bonded (unless financial aid isn’t enough)

You have a decent chance at Fordham. It’s in Bronx and it’s slightly smaller (about 8.5K undergrads). Probably not as many internship opportunities and it’s a few thousand less than NYU, but not in as large an area.

pace, st johns are all extreme safteys, ill probably apply to hofstra but i think i can do better than that, and i will visit fordham later this month, do they have alot of international students, good study abroad program / buisness program? and should i still apply to nyu?

and does early action increase chances of getting in, what is the benefit of it?

Early Action increases your chances of getting in, and if you get into your school of choice early, you don’t have to apply to other schools later(:

And hah, I wouldn’t say St. John’s is an extreme safety…

cant find it on naviance but it isnt it like 3.0 gpa weighted?
and when would i find out with early action?

December 15th. And I dunno, don’t have naviance, but most schools only even display the unweighted GPA…

Middle 50% of
First-Year Students Percent Who
Submitted Scores
SAT Critical Reading: 480 - 590
SAT Math: 490 - 620

“18% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
14% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
17% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
16% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
19% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99
14% had h.s. GPA between 2.0 and 2.49
2% had h.s. GPA between 1.0 and 1.99”

From College Board. So I’d call it more of a “low match” than an “extreme safety”…

and how much does early action increase, would i have a big chance of getting in to fordham, would it be better to try and raise my gp .1 or .2 so its 3.5 or 3.6 weighted senior fall then apply regular to fordham or would i just have abetter chance keeping my gpa and applying early?

I’d apply early to Fordham IF my midyear grades came out before the deadline… That way I could submit them. If not, I’m not sure what I’d do… If you get rejected from Fordham early, you could always go to another school. If you plan to transfer to NYU later anyway (you never said you do, just pointing this out), then it shouldn’t matter much. It could really go either way…

would i be able to transfer to nyu?

and whats the deadline? november 1st?

You would be able to transfer to NYU with a college GPA of 3.5+ and some good ECs after a year. Stern may be like 3.6+ and good ECs.

“ED = Binding - if you get in you MUST go, it is legally bonded (unless financial aid isn’t enough)”

There’s nothing legal about ED; it’s an honor-system agreement.

Also consider this: [Youre In. Can You Back Out? - New York Times](You’re In. Can You Back Out? - The New York Times)

link didnt work, and so should i just not apply to nyu

and go for fordham instead
also anyone know any colleges that are decent that i could probs get in to, at cali, preferablly with a decent amount of people? so far i only know of university of santa clara

Hmm… Pepperdine’s nice, though it’d be somewhat of a reach for you. I’d apply to Pepperdine and some low-level UCs.

You could do NYU ED and Fordham EA.
Also, when you visit Fordham, check both campuses- the Lincoln Center one is in a really great neighborhood in Manhattan. The Rose Hill campus is in the Bronx.

He could do NYU ED, Fordham EA, Hofstra EA, St. John’s EA, and Santa Clara University EA, as many less selective schools have non-binding EA programs.

isnt early action / descision deadline november 1st? i dont think first quarter grades are out by then, and my first quarter grades will probably be better than a 3.4 gpa so should i wait or would applying early help me more than getting slighly better grades? aiming for all B’s or above… no c’s
