Edit: Also, I don’t know if this is helpful or not, but my older brother graduated from CMU and majored in computer science in 2015. I am also thinking about applying to UVA McIntire or UNC Chapel Hill Kenan-Flagler.
That GPA will probably drag you down and again, both colleges can find an identical app, just with a higher GPA.
HOWEVER
Applying ED most def increases your chances of the above situation not happening and therefore for chances of getting in increase quite a bit.
Regardless, you’re gonna need to find some good matches/safeties.
UVA is a complete reach though, and UNC is also quite a reach.
DurejaVu is right about the risk involved with your GPA, but fortunately most colleges have a ‘holistic review’. Even if you have a low GPA that’s just one important aspect and almost always a stellar essay that is in line with the values of the college and shows how you can handle life at NYU and CMU while also giving off a feel of who you are as a person will get you in. If someone has similar EC’s and higher GPA than you, but your essay is considerably better, you will get in. ED will increase your chances quite a bit, but be be prepared for a possibly shit FA package. Idk about CMU but NYU is meh with FA and might try to leech more $ because you wanna go to the school so badly so consider ED on CMU. Gl
Yes lebrondames is right, NYU will milk your money if you ED so it’s better if you ED to CMU!
Thanks for the input! One thing I forgot to mention was that my GPA and class rank drastically improved from freshman year. My class rank was outside of the top 30% in the beginning, but after the first semester of senior year, I’m expecting it to be around the top 10%. Will that help my chances?
