Chances for NYU?

So, I'm a Junior in my school, and I'm very determined to get into NYU.

My GPA at the moment is 3.5

I'll be taking my SATs in June, but I have been preparing for them since 9th grade.
I also have been preparing for ACTs.

(Not like this determines anything, but the people I am friends with have gotten 1800+ on SATs and 24+ on ACTs.)

The biggest thing that worries me though is the amount of AP classes I am able to take. I go to a very small school, and am going to graduate with 83 people. Considering my school is so small we only have 2 AP classes (AP Euro and AP Calculus.) I'm planning on taking AP Euro, but I won't be able to take AP Calculus, due to the fact that I'll be taking Pre-Calc.

Now, for extracurricular activities:

I've been in the Drama club for 3 years, counting Junior year, and will be joining again when I am a senior. I love to sing and dance. We did the The Drowsy Chaperone and I played Mrs.Tottendale and Sophomore year we did Chicago, I played Mama. We have yet to find out what we do this year, but since only a small amount of the people in my school join Drama, and the two girls who get the counterpart leads are in university now, I will be most likely be receiving the lead for the next two years (hopefully).

I also am the Vice-President in the Interact Club (Community Service). This is the only club in my school that actually offers a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer (other than Student Council).

I take part in Chemistry club!

I am also going to apply for the National Honors Society.

I speak 3 languages fluently: English, Japanese, and Korean. I take Italian 3 in school, and am going to take Italian 4 (my school only provides Italian and Spanish.).

I thank you for any tips and advice!

P.S. I am hoping to get in Steinhardt for teaching or Psychology!

It’s hard to chance you without any SAT or ACT score. It doesn’t matter what you’re friends are getting—it matters what you get. If you want a strong chance I’d say you need a 2000+ and/or a 30+ on the ACTs.

I’ve read many places that 1800 is good enough. I got prefects on PSATs and I took AP French too ( forgot to include that ) and got 100s for the whole year, but it was a VHS class. I also did state that my friends SAT/ACT didn’t matter. I just threw it in. I also will be taking 2 community college classes next year :o

If you look on NYU’s website you can see that most admitted students scored around a 650-750 on each section. [NYU Facts](<a href=“NYU Facts”>NYU Facts).

An 1800 may be ok for some students—perhaps if a student had some sort of hook. Yet on average, an 1800 will not get you in to NYU.

3 Students in the same situation as me got in. One with a score of 1600 on SAT! She was also on finical aid. Those NYU facts may be true, but it’s not like they stand by them. It’s not like I’m applying for Stern. I’m trying for Steinhardt. They really look at those essay questions. They look for uniqueness I heard, and considering it is in NYC, being unique is something! :D
