Hey guys,
I know it has been awhile since I last posted anything, which I feel bad about. You guys have helped me a lot in this process, and I’d like to give back. I will try to help out more in the future.
Anyway, this year I am applying to Andover, Exeter, and Groton.
Interviews:
Groton: Not great, but it was my first. I sent a thank-you and received a response, as well as a “Happy Holidays/please apply” letter in December.
Exeter: This one went beautifully, as I was ready and prepared. I was able to express all my interests. He even said I did well!
Andover: This one also went well, and it was more social. I was less confident about this one though, but not by much. Unlike the Exeter interviewer, she gave me no insight to whether I did well or not. Also, Andover had this big event last Saturday, and I attended. I also attended the open house.
SSAT:
88% overall
Verbal 92%
Reading 76%
Math 80-something percent
*I am most concerned about these
Grades:
English: A
Math: B
History: A-
Spanish: B+
Science: B (oof)
Art (Ceramics): High pass
I know these are modest, but BB&N is very rigorous. Still, I don’t know if these are high enough though.
Extracurriculars:
-Community Service: I have expressed the various ways I have volunteered, and how I am part of the school’s community service club.
-Writing: I am part of the school’s newspaper, and I have submitted an editorial I wrote. I also won an essay competition back in sixth grade. Also, my graded writing sample for Andover is an A+ Essay about ‘To Kill A Mockingbird’
-I am good at sports, but I am not an “impact-athlete.” I play Football, Squash, and Crew. However, I am quite good at crew, though, as I am tall, and the sport warrants less repetitive practice.
-Music: Piano - 5 years, Harmonica - 1 year, Trombone - ~1/2 year (still learning)
-My brother and I have a snow shoveling business, which has been very successful. I coded a website for it as well.
-Acting: auditioned and selected for school Improv troupe, auditioning for lead in school musical
-I am sure there are more, but none that I can remember.
Recs:
-Math: My math teacher is very nice, and he said it was great.
-English: My teacher is hard to read, and I don’t know if she likes me or not. I met with her multiple times regarding the letter, though, so I assume she will mention those regardless.
-Advisor: My advisor is very nice, but I don’t really know her. I hope that doesn’t hinder her enthusiasm. I also met with her multiple times about the letter.
-Personal: She is one of my brother’s and my snow shoveling clients, and we became good friends with her. She is a professor and writer, and her letter was very genuine and positive, and beautifully written.
-I have some minor connections to Andover and Exeter, but not big enough to be a game-changer. We’re talking distant relatives and family friends.
Thank you so much! Nevertheless, please be honest as always. I am not one to get mad if my feedback is not positive.
