How does my college list look? Are my college choices matches? Or, do any of you think I should try a subject tests and add a college like Georgetown as another ''reach'' for my list?

if you're a junior... i think you can aim your sights a bit higher... you're going to be a val with good ecs and decent enough SATs... are you recruitable for track/cross country?

Realistically, I don't view myself as ''recruitable''.

And I think those matches actually are good personal fits for me. I don't view college as a ''prestige'' game... I'd rather settle at a lesser tier school while getting a solid preparation for medical school (hopefully) and feeling fulfilled from college life than being unhappy at a ''more prestigious'' school that doesn't quite fit me.

So, necessarily, I think those college are very good matches for me (of course, I still am keeping my eyes open). I think I have a relatively good chance of getting all of them (with the exception of Colgate which would be a slight reach) provided my recommendations and essays are really well written. I have two teachers who will write glowing recs of me, I am quite certain, and I can write very insightfully---so with careful preparation and thought, I'm confident that I can make essays that portray myself accurately to a college...

I don't view upon college as a prestige game... of course, it somewhat matters.. but prestige is not absolutely everything. If I had the chance between going to HYP or somewhere like that and being a complete bookworm with not a lot of friends or relationships... I'd rather live the way I do now while achieving things but having meaningful relationships with friends and family.

:) It's all about finding the right ''fit".

bump bump bump bump bump

:-P

also, any comments to my above post?

Wow, I just kind of skimmed your stats, and I don't even really think Colgate would be much of a reach... I agree with the above poster that you can aim higher... I would research schools and choose one or two very prestigious colleges that you think would be a good fit... Perhaps Johns Hopkins if you're into medicine?

Hmmm.... Actually, I think those colleges are solid matches for me. :-) I'm not too caught up in the ''prestige'' game. Lehigh U, Bucknell U, and Colgate U are "prestigious" enough for me. Those are probably my top 3 choices as of now... My goals are to become a family physician.. and all of those schools, I feel, will adequately prepare me.

I just really think I would be happy at one of them.. I don't want to stress myself out over SAT II's, extremely selective admission anxiety, all of that extra effort when I can be perfectly happy at one of those colleges that truly are ''great'' fits.

:) I've actually realized that I don't need to worry about ''applying for more reaches'' like I once was.

It's a nice feeling instead of being so worried and anxious about being accepted into school XYZ.

colgate is not a slight reach
its a match

u might want to try for some better schools too

ummm
and try taking the ACT or raisng sat scores

:-)I guess the comment above me didn't read my post above him.

I would agree with the above posters that you could try for "more selective" schools...though to be honest, you'd need to up the SATs to be competitive.

If that's what you wanted.

But instead, I will strongly commend you for your views!
The schools on your list present a clear and coherent picture of what you want, and each one of them would provide a top-notch education.
It is very rare to see someone on CC whose list has much unity aside from the fact that all the schools are presitigious.
To those who know about higher education, the schools you have chosen are all excellent, and I wish you the best of luck in getting into each of them.

That said, lists can change, and don't be afraid to keep researching in the time you have left, whether it leads to including more selective schools, or simply uncovering a gem you'd previously overlooked.

Thanks pinnipotto, I'm glad somebody else sees with my point of view that prestige definitely is not EVERYTHING && that people can be happy at a bunch of different schools---because there are so many great ones out there.

I honestly feel sad towards the people who are stressing out to no end over getting into the ''most prestigious'' school while putting so much effort into it && only doing activities to have it look good on a resume--not because they are really passionate about it. Now, I know NOT everybody who applies to the top schools is like that--- a vast majority are truly passionate to what they do--- but i think it's notable that a lot of people are just doing things soley on the purpose of getting into their prestigious college. You have to sometimes wonder... Are those people truly happy with their life?
