Definitely retake the ACt but the difference between Chicago and UIUC (I know you're also applying there) is less emphasis on test scores but besides that you have a great chance with ood essays.

Thanks. I'm not the best writer in the world, but hopefully, with many editors, I'll be able to get an awesome essay. Of course, the essay will have my voice and not others. Another issue I have is money. Hopefully, I'll get some merit scholarship. I highly doubt it, but I can dream. :)

So, if I were to get a 28, would I have a good chance? I know I'm not going to jump from 26 to 30. 28 is a little reasonable because I would have gotten that one time if my reading didn't drop many points. I suck at the reading section.

28 is still low.......and be aware that Chicago has a rigorous Core curriculum and is not known for being a pre-med school, though the U of C hospitals are aweseom....the kids at Chicago are more intellectual and theoretical oriented than practical and pre-professional, IMHO

28 is more than fine. Last week, a rep from chicago gave us the 2010 middle 50 and it was 28-33. So, it's on the low side but like I said Chicago doesn't care too much about test scores so a 28 is fine.

What about a 26? What if my score is the same? Will I still have a chance? I mean, I will reach for a 28, but if I can't or don't want to really depend on that. So, is 26 bad?

I'm just really bad at the standerized tests (especially in reading) because English is my third language, and I still don't know many English phrases or words. So, reading is killing me. That's why I don't want to depend on the upcoming ACT.

No, I know my english. It's just that because it's my third language, I'm slow at the reading on the ACT. I've written essay before. They may not be the best, but they don't suck. :)

I just took the ACT today, and I have no idea how I did at all. Ususually, I have an idea, but this time, not a clue. So, I don't want to depend on it. Is there a chance of me getting in with a 26?

You have "a chance", but combining that low ACT score with the fact that nothing in the rest of your post really sticks out, I wouldn't put any money on it. You have to BLOW THEM AWAY on the essays. You MUST succeed in convincing them that the fact that English is your third language really hinders your standardized test performance. And you are an Asian female, which is kinda like starting the game with two strikes against you.

It doesn't sound to me that UChicago is a good fit for you. If you went there, your classmates would be mainly native speakers of English with exceptionally strong reading and writing ability. Unless you could quickly improve your skills, you would struggle in your core classes, bringing down your GPA and not looking good for med school.

lol its def asian - two strikes =(
and i have to say, uchic is a place you have to consider very thoroughly before going there to be premed. research it WELL.

abt ur chances, im looking for something that stands out or something ur super passionate abt and i dont see it. see if you can bring that out in ur essays.

ok seriously. I would strongly disagree with the statement that english being a second or third language is unusual here. being an actual student at uchi, i'd like to state for the record the visali's stats look more than adequate. if she can put together an intelligent (and preferably entertaining) essay, she's got a really great shot at getting in. I would recommend getting an interview if at all possible, and a visit is really a necessity. you'll know if this school is right for you. something clicks, or it doesn't. you know, the school knows. don't let these idiots critique your numbers, cuz they aren't so important here as the total "student package," so to speak.
