Hi everyone! I’m a junior this year at a competitive High school in New England and I’m very interested in SDSU. Do you think I still have a chance of getting in if I get a C/C+ in AP Bio? My gpa is a 3.71 and no one from my high school has ever been denied from SDSU. Thanks in advance for your input!
According to the SDSU Nursing website, you need a minimum B in AP Biology.
Here is the information:
Minimum Admission Requirements
Minimum GPA of 3.0 in A – G coursework
Minimum grades of B in Intermediate Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry with lab courses. If AP or IB level courses were taken in these areas, applicants must have earned a minimum grade of B.
SAT Critical Reading and Mathematics (old version) -or- SAT Evidenced Based Reading and Mathematics (new version) -or- ACT English and Mathematics.

Here is the Nursing Admit profiles for the last few years. SDSU will use your CSU GPA which is 10-11th grades for the a-g courses with a cap of 8 semesters of Honors points for AP/IB or DE courses since you are an OOS applicant.

Here is the CSU GPA calculator and Eligibility index calculator. SDSU admits by EI so aim for a 4500+ EI for the best chances.
Ok, thanks so much for your help @Gumbymom
@Gumbymom My boyfriend (in-state) has applied to the Nursing program at SDSU. Do you think he still has a chance if he never took any kind of chemistry courses? He has decent SAT (1280 I think) and ACT (27 composite) scores but he does have some good qualities like medical classes and an A in AP Bio during his junior year. I really hope he gets in because SDSU is his safety school and I don’t know if he can get into any nursing programs at the UCs.
@StudyandHungry:
These are the requirements for the Freshman Entry BSN program at SDSU:
Minimum Admission Requirements
Minimum GPA of 3.0 in A – G coursework
Minimum grades of B in Intermediate Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry with lab courses. If AP or IB level courses were taken in these areas, applicants must have earned a minimum grade of B.
SAT Critical Reading and Mathematics (old version) -or- SAT Evidenced Based Reading and Mathematics (new version) -or- ACT English and Mathematics.
If he did not take Chemistry, it looks like he does not meet the requirements. Did he contact SDSU to see if his medical classes could be substituted for the Chemistry requirement?
Also when it comes to direct admit Nursing programs which are all impacted, there is no such thing as a safety school unless you have a very high eligibility index.
His test scores are low in comparison to last year’s class. What is his GPA and EI?

https://asir.sdsu.edu/applications-by-major/ here you can find the acceptance rate for nursing at SDSU is quite low.
There are several CSUs that offer Pre-Nursing (non direct entry) where students can take the Nursing prerequisites there or at community colleges before applying to the nursing program at end of freshmen year. That’s also an avenue to pursue nursing if he doesn’t make it into any of the direct entry programs right out of high school. I believe the AP Bio result is impressive and should help.
My GPA is 3.92 and my EI is 4416. What are my chances of getting admitted into SDSU’s nursing program?
I hope you have some backup plans. SDSU nursing requires at least a 4.0 plus lots of extras.
Hey!!! not sure where to post but im a freshman at UCSD and wanting to transfer to SDSU for nursing by the end of the quarter (if possible). Been trying to get information on anyone who has transferred from UCSD to SDSU for nursing specifically. requirements (GPA & Credits) ? what I should take here at UCSD that is transferrable to SDSU ? level of difficulty to get into SDSU nursing as transfer ? are all my classs/credits from UCSD transferable ? anything helps thank you!!!
@ingaling: See my answers on your other post. SDSU only takes Junior level transfers so you cannot transfer as a Freshman.
The information is listed below:
https://nursing.sdsu.edu/programs/bs-in-nursing/admissions/transfer-students/
Depending upon what classes you have taken, UCSD courses should transfer. Here is a link to check course equivalencies:

You cannot do an internal transfer to Nursing at SDSU. You either get admitted directly as a Freshman or as 2 year transfer from another school. You might want to take the pre-req courses at your local community instead of UCSD.
@Gumbymom My CSU GPA according to the application is a 4.36 and my SAT is 1430. I also took both ap biology and ap chemistry and got A’s in both. Do you think I have a good chance of being admitted to the nursing major? I have tried to look for the fall 2018 admissions stats but I only found 2014-2017.
@daniellle: You need to start your own chancing thread. You look very competitive.
hey danielle, I’m a sophomore in the SDSU nursing program. When we are al applying we felt that we had to have like 4.5 gpa and a perfect SAT and all that good stuff, but I graduated HS with a 4.1 and a 30 ACT score so nowhere near perfect. You look like you’re in an extremely good place to be accepted. You will find out in February whether or not you got accepted, but I would say you are pretty safe. it also depends on whether you are outside of California or not, but either way, you seem safe.
@daniellle those stats were competitive last year when my D was accepted to Nursing at SDSU. So I’d say you have a great chance this year. Notifications for nursing were delayed last year from previous years and started 3/19.
@daniellle did you take the ap exam for bio and what did you score on it
moved to a post
If you are able to get B’s or higher in AP Chem, then your C+ in Honors Chem probably will not make a difference. If you are not sure, you can always contact SDSU nursing just to confirm.

Thank you @Gumbymom for the quick reply, I had moved my question to a post so you can also reply there to help people in a similar situation as me. I will email them to find out and update my post with that new information. Thank you so much.
