Hi! I've made this thread before but I updated it with the schools I actually ended up applying to!

For almost 6 years I've been doing consistent work for two colleagues of my Dad's, Ranges from Graphics Design to Filing to Fixing Computers to Software work. [Getting Letter of Recs from both, one of the colleagues is a board member for the Engineering department of UToronto, hence why I'm applying there.]

My essays/personal statements were fairly strong/good.

I put this at the beginning, but I'll just repeat it incase someone missed it, I do realize I'm not a competitive applicant by any means, I'm just hoping I'm decent enough to get into any of the schools I'm applying to. I'm also open to suggestions if you think a school is perfect for me but I have not listed it.

Thanks!

BUMP: I’m mostly just curious about my chances at the UCs

bump

Your work experience should reflect your area of interest, so shadowing a pediatrician but applying for a computer science major as your first choice is somewhat contradicting. It makes you seem scattered about what you really intend to major l or have a career in, and colleges like firm decisions about futures. Explain the correlation to they if they ever ask (which I highly doubt they will). Hopefully your other work in tech-stuff for your dad’s friends will make up for that. Your scores are ok, but it’s not like you can really retake your SAT IIs now.You have a final chance at the ACT this Saturday, so you can possibly try it again for a higher score. It’s really late now but still possible.

Reach - UCR, UCSB, UCI (not necessarily high reaches but reaches none the less)
Match - UCR, UCM, UCSC

Merced and SC may be the two lowest UCs, but they are still fairly good schools. I should also note that it is easier to transfer from UC to UC, so going to Merced/SC can be beneficial if you want to attend higher UC in the future. Just keep your grades above a certain GPA, show rigor, and you should be fine.

@Cherie27 Thank you! I realize that but I did put in Pre-Med/Health if they asked, so I hope that clarifies it up slightly for the colleges. I don’t really see myself scoring above a 30 on the ACT in such short time and with my average SAT score I think I might be fine, we’ll see though.

Yeah, UCSC and UCR are fairly ideal for me, if I hopefully get in. I do hear back from Purdue tomorrow, and UMass and Willamette on Monday so I’m hoping for the best! I am ending first semester with a 4.8/5.0 (6 AP classes) would this be something I could appeal (probable) a UC rejection or waitlist with? Or would I need something more substantial?

Thanks!

Edit: Accepted to UMass Amherst for Undeclared and Willamette University! Still waiting on Purdue, U of Arizona and the UC’s
