Chances for Stanford and Top Schools

lol I forgot about my thread. I’m probably going to submit my application for Stanford REA today, so I’m a little nervous. You seem to be quite confident that I’ll get in, so hopefully I’m just unnecessarily stressing out.

I’m tempted to just hold off for RD. My grades this 1st semester of senior year are a pretty big improvement from my junior year. My semester grades so far are:

AP Chemistry: 98
AP Biology: 96
AP Physics B: 94
AP English IV: 92
AP Macroeconomics: 96

I’m pretty confident that I can maintain these grades, so maybe I should do Stanford RD along with all my other choices? It would help my GPA/rank somewhat, and more importantly show that I am capable in the sciences right?

Congratulations SAT128! Well done. Now don’t let your essay be your Achilles’ heel.

Thanks! I’ve been told by friends and family that my essays are phenomenal, and two of my teachers said that they were some of the best essays they’ve ever read. I personally feel that they are the strongest part of my application, but that’s just me.

I think I’m just going to go with Stanford REA like I originally planned, unless someone has some last minute intervention advice. I think I should be ok

i think u have great chances. good scores - check. awards - many, check. gpa - check. especially if u are legacy.

Thanks! Although I have been a little concerned with the 3.88 UW GPA, as well as the 32/1100 rank. I had a mostly bad Junior Year that dropped me ~10 ranks. And there are so many top 1% applicants out there :/

My school is notorious for sending kids to Stanford (10 kids last year). From what I’ve seen, you are for sure in. Surprisingly, our valedictorians did not get in, but rather those with legacy and minority status–you have both!! Legacy is huge at Stanford for REA. I would HIGHLY advise applying early (you probably have by now). Your test scores are high, your gpa IS high. Don’t let that bring you down. You will either be accepted or deferred/waitlisted (no chance at denial in my eyes). Please chance me back!! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1411905-chance-ucla-ucb-michigan-uva-vanderbilt.html

PS- my friend got in last year through regular decision with a similar UW gpa (3.93) and a lower SAT (2100-2200). He didn’t have legacy, but he did apply as Hispanic. Oh, he played a sport too. Sports are pretty big there…

Not at all true. For Stanford, the easiest shoe-in is always athletes. You have a great shot, but some ACT 28 kid with a 3.4GPA but nice speed will trump your resume any day of the week. That’s what makes Stanford tick. However, your Hispanicness will put you over the goal lines, as Stanford is about as politically correct as all the higher eds, anyway.

Ah feels bad being an Asian. Lol

Thanks guys. As someone who has chanced a lot of other people, I guess I should know that I have a pretty decent shot.

And I know this sounds conceited, but I kind of want to get into some other top schools like Harvard and Princeton just to shove it into some of my teachers/peers faces. A lot of people, especially my teachers from Junior Year, are convinced I’m basically an average shy student (and thus have a slight bias in grading/treating me a certain way unfairly). I tend to not say much at all during class, unlike certain natural born leaders or people that love answering questions.

I know I must sound like an ass, but oh man I would so relish being able to tell my calculus or english teachers that I got accepted to Stanford or Harvard. :stuck_out_tongue: That in itself would be enough for all the hard work heh

I usually give a decent amount of credit to chances threads, but in this case just about everyone was wrong. I guess this goes to say opinions are really just opinions. Got an outright rejection for Stanford REA. Not really sure my chances are so great anymore

i agree USC is definitely by no means a safety, but you have a strong chance of getting into all of the schools you mentioned. nice to see someone with impressive ECs, too! :)
