Here are the schools I am applying to and would like your input on my odds of acceptance:

I applied to Stanford, Maryland (college park), and the University of Virginia early action

(only applied to those three b/c Stanford is restriction EA so can only apply to public schools early) (to stanford I sent a letter of rec from a former professor who started a special IR program there and currently works in the CIA, he is a family friend, he has never written on behalf of an applicant before and told me he felt the letter was very strong)

Schools:
Stanford
Georgetown
Barnard
Johns Hopkins
UC Berkeley
UCLA
UVa
George Washington University
NYU
Brandeis
American
Northeastern
Maryland
UC San Diego

Please give as much feedback as possible. I hear back from my early schools soon and would just like some impartial input into my chances. I give VERY detailed chances back to whoever comments.

My supplements to stanford were unique and strong.

Roommate prompt- I warned them of how I debate in my sleep to show overall passion for intellectual discussion and discovery.

Intellectual prompt - I opened with a quote and told about a debate round where I pushed myself beyond my political comfort zone and learned how I can be witty/charming

Something I care about prompt- i care about the world as seen through my passion for global cultures (story about a time I experienced blatant anti-semitism and through discussion helped that person grow/understand not all jewish people are islamaphobic)

I think you’re impressive all around. Legacy status will definitely help with Berkeley (which I believe you will get into) but Stanford is extremely competitive even with this. I would say you have a really good shot at all of those schools, besides maybe Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, Stanford and UVa (if OOS). I wish you luck!

Probably a good shot at Brandeis. Good luck.

@mnm111 what about the rest…?

You have a lot of extracurriculars that really show your passion and the legacy will probably help. I think the depth of participation that you have portrayed in your community really shows that you are capable of thriving at any of the schools. While I am unfamiliar with some of the schools you mentioned, you will get into at least one of the UCs, and i think you have a fairly good shot at the other schools. You’ll probably get into the last six schools you listed easily.

You have good chances at all your schools except for Stanford, JHU, and Georgetown.

Your ECs show lots of passion for government and they’re not all scattered.

Your numbers are solid except for the SAT II exams.

@mmmmmmmmm do you think the 760 and 710 will be high enough if those are the only ones I am sending to all schools but Georgetown and Barnard who require you report all scores?

They are solid, but not good for a school like Stanford. If you do get rejected. it’ll won’t be becuase of your SAT IIs.

First of all you presented yourself with a solid list of ECs which is very beneficial to you. I am concerned with the ACT however, not the greatest but it still puts you in the middle of the pack. John Hopkins and Standford are reaches but all the other colleges seem to be a low reach or a 50/50. Others like NYU and UCSD seems to be a sure thing for you. Thanks for the chance me.

I went to camp ramah also! You have really cool EC’s and colleges will really see how dedicated you are. You’ve clearly dedicated a lot of time and energy to your school and to your activities.
Heres what I think, although I’m no admissions director. Just based off where my friends have gotten into and what I’ve read on CC:

Stanford- reach
Georgetown- Low reach/reach
Barnard- Low Reach- very competitive if not applying ED
Johns Hopkins
UC Berkeley- Match
UCLA- Match
UVa- Match/Low reach- competitive out of state
George Washington University- Match
NYU- Match
Brandeis- not familiar but I have a lotttt of jewish friends who have applied and gotten in, and with similar/lower states that you)
American- Safety/Match
Northeastern- Safety/Match
Maryland- Safety
UC San Diego- Match

Hi there
Here are my approximations:
Stanford- high match (but your professor rec. will really boost you)
Georgetown- match
Barnard- Reach
Johns Hopkins - Match
UC Berkeley- Match
UCLA- Match
UVa- Low reach-
George Washington University- Match
NYU- Low Match
Brandeis- Match
American- Safety
Northeastern- Low Match
Maryland- Safety
UC San Diego- Match

A lot of these schools depend on essays…I think stats-wise my above thoughts are accurate, but essay-wise, it can be mixed up, Brandeis, NYU, Stanford, and Northeastern all look at essays.

Good luck!

Wow… You have a lot of schools and a lot of extracurriculars!

Stanford- this one is a reach for everybody, but their selection process is sometimes a bit odd- I have know 5.0 students to not get in, but with your strong extracurriculars, it brings up your chances.
Georgetown- also a reach for most, but your interests and (seemingly) competitive nature will probably make it a great fit for you
Barnard- good school, it might even be a target for you, but you can never be too sure. I think your odds are pretty decent, though.
Johns Hopkins- tough school, and I feel like you have the same chance as for Georgetown
UC Berkeley- similar to Barnard’s chance. I think you have a solid chance of getting in
UCLA- tough to say with the large applicant pool, but I’d say that one’s very likely
UVa- definite safety, but since you’re out of state, it might make it a tiny bit harder (not by much though)
George Washington University- Strong chance of getting in
NYU- (yay!!) strong chance of getting in, especially since your extracurriculars are rocking
Brandeis- very strong chance of getting in- I have a friend who goes there, and she definitely did not do as much as you have done
American- safety; great location if you’re interested in politics (same with GW)
Northeastern- very strong chance of getting in
Maryland- would be shocking to not take you
UC San Diego- almost safety- they’re a good school, and with your stats, I would say you have an 80y/20n depending on the applicant pool and reader. But you seem solid.

Thank you so much for the chance! I hope this helps and with you luck with your endeavors!!

With you being from CA and Jewish, I think you have a very good chance at Stanford/Berkeley/Brandeis. Johns Hopkins will be tough. The rest I don’t know, but probably don’t matter.

I think you have a good chance for the top choices that you mentioned. You have a decent academic record. I would be glad to have something this good.

Chance back please: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1713130-chance-me-i-will-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

I think you have a good chance for a lot of these schools. Best of luck!

For anyone else, chance back: <a href=“Please Chance Me! WILL CHANCE BACK I PROMISE - #37 by mmmmmmmmm - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>Please Chance Me! WILL CHANCE BACK I PROMISE - #37 by mmmmmmmmm - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums;

It’s great that your extracurriculars are extensive and show a passion for government, they show a common theme

Stanford- high match-- I would say that since you have connections/legacy
Georgetown- reach
Berkeley- Match
UCLA- Match
UVa- high match
George Washington University- Match
NYU- high match
Brandeis- match
American- match or safety
Northeastern- safety
Maryland- safety

could you chance me back? not nearly as impressive as yours, but
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1713264-chance-me-for-chance-back-uiuc-bu-northwestern-umichigan-ann-arbor-uchicago-loyola.html</a></p>

If you don’t get your apps to Berkeley, UCLA & UCSD submitted by midnight tonight, you chances at those schools are -0-.

Historically there tends to be a bottleneck on the servers during the last couple of hours leading into the admission deadline.

Damn. I wish I had EC’s like yours, they’re great. I would be surprised if you didn’t get into most of your schools, especially Berkeley.
Stanford is another beast altogether. Your GPA and letters are great but your scores are a little low. But Stanford doesn’t care quite as much as other top schools about scores, they’re generally much more holistic, so you should stand an excellent chance there. Try retaking the sub-700 subject tests if you have time and if they accept Jan submits.

Chance me?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1712466-chances-taught-myself-japanese.html</a></p>

@calmom As I specified in the post, those three I applied to early. I turned in my UC app over two weeks ago, but did not include it under that category as those applications are simply their normal deadline not Early Action.
