If you want to major in Law then why are you looking at Princeton? It doesn't even have a law school. Yale is much better for aspiring lawyers.

Nah, it doesn't matter. It's not like you'd get a second rate pre-law education there, and Princeton won't reject you just because you wanna be a lawyer. The undergrad years are a totally different thing.

out of curiosity, is secretary general of MUN just for your school - or is it some areawide organization? If that were the case, that would be pretty impressive.

What were your AP scores? Be specific on your SAT II scores.
I guess you are a Korean living in the US, right?
anyways, I think your grades are excellent as well as your SAT I scores. THe problem is, HYPS have no use for kids that have a billion ECs, 500 community service hours, or petty leadership and grades. They want to know if you are a working machine which target is admission, or if you show true and pure CRAVING for excellence as well as if you'd be great use to their reputation.
Your essay is CRITICAL for HYPS, since prob about everyone has as great stats and resume as you do. Essays and personal background is (I think) what decides your entrance in places like HYPS

Anyways, I think that it is impossible for anyone to be 'match' with any of the HYPS, but you're at slight reach on HYPS, and reach/match on Darthmouth and Penn

PS: dont forget to post your AP scores. THOSE MATTER, although colleges deny it

Cheers

AP scores:
Chemistry: 4
Physics: 3
USH: 5
Psychology: 5
Calculus A/B: 5

Will take the following:
Calculus BC
Music Theory
Government
Macroeconomics
World History
English Literature
Environmental Science

My science scores are weak bc I don't like it...

Korean: 740 (that REALLY sucked... average was 742)
Chemistry: 750
Math IIC: 800
USH: 720 (and retook it, but I think i might have done worse)
Math IC: 800

And for Echelon32, no unfortunately, the secretary general thing means I am president of MUN ONLY in my school... such a bummer... but sounds cool. :)

cmon, bump bump BUMP!

lol why not? i think you have a great chance at getting into those schools. most ppl here seem to be looking for insane math/science/research etc. awards, but you're into more of the debate and liberal arts stuff, which is great. and you've got a lot of leadership positions and initiative. which does make u stand out slightly cuz ur asian :) (and then taken back cuz ur asian) i'm sure you would've written a great essay, which would also be a plus. test scores and GPA are solid, too. good luck!

I think you have as much of a chance as anyone else.
Your GPA and SATs are great, it's down to luck

Aw well woodchuck. I took a look at your APs and SAT IIs....
You seem to excell in Math (like all koreans :duh: I'm a korean myself :p).
Seem to be reasonably good in History (How did you get a 5 on AP, and 720 on SAT II ???).
PS: You're taking a few APs that I'm taking (I'm a junior). Im taking 3, Psych, Calc AB, USH

Verdict(as harshy but fairly as I could judge):
Stanford--> reach (all ivies and HYSP are reach for anyone :( )
Harvard --> " "
Princeton --> " "
UPenn --> slight reach / match
Brown --> match, possibly slight reach
Carnegie --> match
Dartsmouth --> match
UC Berk --> match, but prob no financial aid

PS: If you get accepted/rejected at any of those, plz post it on the forums or PM plz :P. I wanna know how well my predictions were, as well as a model for my senior year ;)

Hoping for the best ;)
Kowloon

ha ha. Yeah, about AP USH, that's because I'm more of a writer than guesser (Multiple Choice). I still have never gotten a 12 on my essay though after 4 tests (got three 11s and one 10). Yeah, sucks being Korean...

i think you have a good chance...a lot better than me haha
i dono alot tho..harvard, princeton, and standford may be reaches but i think everywhere else u would have a good chance

hmm... that's nice. thank you. I like this because the comments are getting progressively nicer. YEAH!

Now I jinxed myself and there are going to be mean comments. :( But those help me do better...

Haha, nice or not nice, the only thing that matters is how thick or thin the letter is in April. Try not to think too much about what other CC'ers have said. Use advice only as guidelines...if you search up the graduated senior results thread or the chances worth it? thread you'll realize that people make mistakes and predict wrong outcomes all the time.

^obviously. If we CCers were right even 1/5th of the time, we'd be working in a college counselling office >_<

You're a good candidate for top tier, but absolutely no one can be confident about the Ivies, which makes you a reach even though your accomplishments are really pretty extensive. Good essays and recs will obviously help... Bottom line, unless someone is a 2.9 student and completely deluded, chancing for the Ivies is almost meaningless. They could accept only valedictorians and still turn people away. Buy a lucky horseshoe.

Yeah, I hate that "luck" factor in Ivies... I don't like horseshoes, though, so I'll get a monkey's paw and a rabbit's foot. (sorry all you animal activists) :)

You truly have the components, yet must be able to prove that you are more than a vast array of pretty sounding clubs and other ecs. Stanford recieves a countless number of applications from the highest over achievers, so if you are able to prove that you are more than simply high numbers, than you are in. I might go about conquering this task by conveying in my essay that I am a true and passionate human being, not just a robot with a high gpa. (Note: in no way am I implying that you are)

Uh oh, my essay makes me sound more like a robot than a human being... shoot... Thanks for the tip anyway...
