Aw well woodchuck. Thats how the cookie crumbles.

You're going to finish takin 12 APs... thats a lot.
Anyways, you're deferral stats discourages me :(, and the only encouragement I can get is that I got an 800 in Korea (as if it counts), 800 in Spanish w/listening, 120 Toeffl iBt.

Obviously you have excellent chances at every place you listed, including HY. I really hope you get into Duke, since that's where I wanna be :p.

GL with the rest of your APPs. We all know you're gonna get in somewhere awesome.

well, I got deferred, so does anyone want to make me feel better? Or worse...?

Hello again! Remember me? The other Stanford "reject"? ;)

So, you have really great stats! I'm not really sure what I should say...besides the fact that I can sympathize, obviously. I can list my stats, if you would like, but I don't go to a normal high school, so they're going to be much different than yours. I go to a small private school in New Haven, where everyone is uber-competitive with each other and half my grade has connections with Yale and therefore TEN people got in early because their parents either were professors at the professional schools, Deans of professional schools, distinguished alums, etc. It's really depressing. My parents are Chinese immigrants, so I've got nothing :(

Oh jeez!!! Your school is crazy! Yeah, my parents were Korean immigrants and my school sent only 1 kid to Stanford and 1 to John Hopkins. That was basically it. You can obviously see the excellent standards of my school (sarcasm). If you do post your stuff, tell me so that I can chance you. Most likely positive feedback bc if you got deferred, that means your stats were pretty good. Yeah deferred people! But not really...

I'd say match at Berk*e*ley. You'll probably get into most of your list.

whoops, gracias kyledavid

Here are my stats...

GPA: Urm...I have no idea. Our school calculates our gpas secretly, then doesn't tell any of us.
Rank: Also not supposed to know, but my college counselor secretly told my mom and she secretly told me. I'm apparently 3/127 (trust me, those 127 kids are CRAZY competitive)
SAT: 800 CR, 800 W, 760 M
SAT IIs: Math IIC 800, Chem 770, USH 760

ECs:

-Cross-Country (Captain, FAA All-League Junior Year, FAA Honorable Mention this year, New England Prep School All-New England Team for two years, Award for Sportsmanship and Dedication this year)
-Indoor and Outdoor Track (Captain of both)
-Maroon Key (Community Service)
-Daystar (Literary Magazine)

Hobbies/Interests:

-Writing (I've been doing this since I was about seven...I've won some poetry awards, a member of the International Society of Poets, and I've also published a book that I finished in ninth grade...the book was supposed to be this great hook, but whatever, apparently not)

AP Scores:

English Lit 4
English Lang 5
USH 5
Bio 5

Volunteer Work:

-West Haven VA Hospital
-Yale Hospital

Work Experience:

-insurance company in my town, worked for about a month

Other Awards not mentioned...

-National Spanish Exam Gold Award
-AP Scholar with Honor
-NMSQT Commended

So basically what I can tell is that Stanford thinks I'm not unique or something. Because I know (from my counselor) that I almost made it to the final round...then the committee people said that they didn't want to give too many people an early acceptance, and then deferred me. If I had something REALLY unique in my application (my essays were good, but I guess not good/interesting enough), then maybe they would've considered. I don't know. I still think everything is my fault.

Wow, your scores are MUCH better than mine... You wrote a book? I love writing too, but I've never got anything published. What is it called?
I hate it when you think you have a hook, but you really dont. My parents dropped out of college so I thought that would be a hook, but I guess not...
Just asking, but what was your PSAT score? It seems like they pick semi-finalists and commended winners according to the school, not the scores overall nationwide. I only got a 2180, but got semifinalist while people on this site with a higher score only got commended.

yea.... fellow korean... hahaha cmon, the Korean SATII is like a free gift, gotta get 800 on that one... you in the LA area? same here. live in Pasadena, go to UCLA. yea, people said i was dumbass for turning down Stanford and the Ivys for UCLA, but shiet, full ride, cant complain. plus, im a diehard Bruin fan..... lol

Ur GPA and SAT I scores are actually higher than mine, so yea.....

if ur wondering this is my acceptances and rejections:

Accepted:
UCLA
Cal
UCSD
Harvard
Stanford
Duke
Georgetown
Princeton

Waitlist:
Rice
Johns Hopkins
(didnt give a damn about these, especially after march, so wth......)

Rejections:
Brown
Cornell
UPenn
Darthmouth

you have a DAMN GOOD SHOT at making it to any of them schools on that list of yours.... ur extracurriculars and scores pack a punch... just dont screw up ur essays and ur fine

You must have had a hook. What was it?

what.. a hook in the essay or hookups???

i say the ECs helped a lot.....

Hey XCotter, I'm a volunteer at Yale too! Did you work there this summer?

Not necessarily hookups, but like did you work as a secretary for a senator, take a bullet for the president, or beat the Yokozuma in a Sumo challenge. You know, random stuff that's like uber unique.

HUh,,...XCotter, you should have put a warning before posting your stats. Now I'm really depressed. hah...

I THINK I have a hook, but if publishing a book isn't a hook, coupled with a 2360 SAT.... hah, then I'm starting to doubt my own hook -> I lived in 6 foreign countries for 12.5 years. Got language diplomas/proof (including toeffl) for 3 languages of the highest degree (equal or better than native speakers... including Korean, which I'm 'native' of (a 92% in Daechi-dong against domestic koreans... ) Search 'TCK' for more.

Also add to weird EC's, beating Feodor Emelianenko in a street fight (without an shotgun of course)

bah, I really need to stop procastrinating on CC

i applied to stanford ea with rank 1/500, 2400/800/800. varsity sport, yearbook editor in chief, speech & debate, a lot of church activities, and an EC in which i am ranked top15 nationally, 3x state champion, and represented the US for. i got deferred.

an0nym0us...you make me hate life...but seriously...is stanford INSANE?

more than anything, i think it just demonstrates how tough the pool is

From what I can see, no. Just stupid. Ha ha, not really, I'm sure they have a reason... yeah right...
