<p>I currently live in Denver and attend the largest high school in the state. I am a senior and my top 3 schools are the University of Wisconsin Madison, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and the University of North Carolina Chapell Hill. What do you think my chances are for admission and scholarship money?</p>

-Top ten in the nation at DECA(Business and marketing club) nationals
-Social Co-chair of largest club at school
-Volunteer at Hospital in the summer
-In a boys only community service club
-National Honors Society
-On the Board for a Youth Grantmaking Foundation(Only a few in America, 25 kids on the board)
-Co-Founder of a Youth Group
-Group leader in a club that helps ease the transition into high school for freshman
-Private lessons for piano and perform solo concerts
-Work at Waterway car wash</p>
<p>Unweighted is what is considered at UW, anything below a 3.5 unweighted out of state will be problematic for UW. No merit money on the table at UW (and presumably Michigan). Big publics will not generally see out of state first generation college students as their priority.</p>
My son has applied to those 3 schools as well! His stats are very similar to yours. You just never know…I’d say your best chance is of getting into UW (the other two are really really tough, especially UNC. They take very few out of state kids. Michigan takes a higher percentage from OOS)
You have a good chance at getting into umich, but probably don’t expect any money from them. Umich does not give out very many solely merit based scholarships because everybody who gets admitted there excels academically. In addition, being out of state makes it even more difficult to get scholarships. Most scholarships are reserved for Michigan residents.
I think a reasoning behind this that makes sense is you are are choosing to go out of state at your own will. Making that choice implies that you are willing and able to pay that level of tuition. If you aren’t willing to, you can avoid doing so by staying in state.
