What do you think the average ACT score will be? I couldn’t find anything on the school website and the results I found on google were from like 2008-09.

The range for the ACT is 22-29 so you’re above the middle range.

*On the one hand, UA has a primary duty to educate the qualified residents of Alabama. On the other hand, OOS students pay much more tuition and bring in diversity from around the nation. *

Right…that’s why it’s hard to figure it all out.

Bama certainly is more lenient with admissions when people apply early. I think this is the order that really what Bama looks at whether you’re instate or OOS.

Whatever formula Bama uses, it must be some combo of GPA, course curriculum, and test scores. If you have 2 out of the 3, I think your chances are pretty good. I’ve heard that sometimes the school will ask for a writing sample and teacher recs for these borderline cases.

I know that one OOS kid with lowish stats was accepted with some kind of “conditions”…like he has to go to a certain number of study hall hours per week or something like that.

I know a girl who had a very good GPA from a good private high school, but her testing was awful. She was accepted on “probation” that was lifted after the first semester when she met some stipulated GPA requirement that was the terms of her “probation”. She really is one of those “bad testers.”

Pack…you’re fine…absolutely fine. When you apply in July, send scores/transcripts, you’ll get your acceptance very quickly.

I take “score ranges” with a grain of salt because they won’t represent what you’ll find in your bio/pre-med pre-req classes…especially after the first semester or so.

The score ranges within the STEM majors are going to be higher simply because those majors attract higher performing students.

If I apply in July, would I have to call my school to send them my transcript or would Alabama contact my school for it? My school starts in the middle of August and I dont really think that anybody is there in the summer.

You need to make arrangements to have the transcript sent - colleges don’t do that for you. Your high school most likely has a process for requesting that transcripts be sent, and you’ll need to figure out what that process is. There are a lot of schools that don’t send transcripts during the summer. I know at my D’s high school you have to wait until late August when school starts up again, and you can’t just call them - requests have to be in writing or electronically through Naviance.

pack: check with your guidance department. Our HS requires that students pay $2 in cash for each transcript sent and they need to fill out a form with the name and address of the school that they’re applying to.

Many high schools have a skeleton staff in place during the summer, since the administrative work goes on year round. My D was able to have her transcripts sent about a month before her senior year started.

So I contacted my school and they will send my transcript tomorrow morning.

To send my ACT scores, is there an option on the online application or do I have to contact ACT.org and send it? The previous two times I took it, I didn’t list Alabama as the college to send my scores to.

You can do it online. Just go to actstudent.org, log in to your account and click on the “send scores” button.
