well the thing is athletic grades don't count, and you probably had more weighted classes than i did.

my UCGPA is actually about 3.87. :(

if it makes you feel any better... i got in with a 3.5+~ UC gpa and 2000~ SAT I, 750s SAT IIs (although heavy e/c) for biological sciences

but then again, ive seen people with similar/higher stats and E/Cs rejected so it is really hard to say. The admissions process is quite hard to predict.

however the key fact missing here is... what is your major? (or did I not catch that? I tend to skim) a 3.5 gpa for anthropology in UCSD may be a match while a 3.8 for bioengineering may be a reach. There are only so many seats for different areas therefore it is hard to estimate exactly what your rough chances actually are.

As of now, there isn't much you can do (other than getting an A in that community college class) so I wouldn't stress too much over it.

However there is still a last item you work on. Like someone said before, this is a numbers game and many people will have the same scores. In order to make yourself stand out, a well-written, passionate and most importantly genuine essay is required. Although in the end your scores will truly decide your admissions, you need all the help you can get... so don't procrastinate on your essays.

research colleges early... check other options (have you ever thought of a college in the east coast? or a private school?)... talk to your school counselors... think over your true ambitions and interests (do you really want to study chemistry for 60% of college?)... and finally, and once again, be sure to just relax. It's summer, it's senior year. It's supposed to be the best year of highschool so don't waste it worrying about something you dont have much control over.

I wish you best luck on admissions

thanks a lot ilah0421.

i calculated if i get an A in that community college class, my UCGPA will be 3.91.

as for the personal statements/essays, i'm looking through them now and i'm going to start a draft in a few days.

as for other colleges outside of CA, i don't know. i might apply at usc, but that's still in cal. i just feel at home here. :)

UC Berkeley: Reach/Slight Reach (GPA)
UCLA: Reach/Slight Reach (GPA)
UCSD: Slight Reach/Match (Your GPA looks too low, even with 2000 sat for match. closer to a slight reach, unless you get above a 2000.)

The other uc's should be safe matches or safeties.
I understand people stating friends got into ucla and ucsd and such with low stats, but that is not a god way to judge your chances. look at the average admit stats to gain a accurate idea of your chances.

That all being said, however, you should deff apply to all three top tier uc's (uc berkeley, ucla, ucsd) and also usc. you deff have a shot at all of them, and possibly get into one of them, and who knows, maybe more. best of luck!

no matter what undergraduate major, a 3.5 would not be a match, likely not even a slight reach, unless the sat's were very high.

college classes taken in high school are weighted as honors classes for UC GPA-just in case you forgot to include that in your calculations

do college classes taken during the summer between the junior and senior year count on the UCGPA?

never say never. a friend of mine applied and got into la, sd, and i with a 1090 (old) SAT. major? Astrophysics, asian studies, etc

coincidence? I THINK NOT!!11

well i know i'm not going to major in anything based on a mathematics background. :)

last fall applicants averages

UCSD: GPA = 4.12, SAT = 2100

good luck! UCLA is higher than that

i have a few questions:

IS JOURNALISM CONSIDERED AN EC?

DO SUMMER COURSES TAKEN DURING THE SUMMER BETWEEN YOUR JUNIOR TO SENIOR YEAR COUNT ON YOUR UCGPA AND ARE THEY GIVEN AN EXTRA POINT?

thanks. :)

Yes.....If your Journalism class writes the school newspaper, then you spend outside time on it and it is a extra curricular.

Yah, I think they go onto your junior year so if it is a college class, ap, or honors then you should get the extra point. (I'm not 100% sure on this, but I read it somewhere so I'm pretty sure I'm right)

awesome.

another EC and perhaps a GPA boost. :D

AP Journalism ? lol

no i meant summer class will give me a gpa boost.

"UCSD: GPA = 4.12, SAT = 2100"

Where's that from?

The SAT average for UCSD was not a 2100.... they're not even that high at UCLA. Also, I think the GPA is 4.0 ish too.

the average SAT scores haven't even been announced yet since this is the first year that incoming freshman have had to take the new SAT...so i don't know where you're getting the 2100 from

by the way...the princeton review said the "expected SAT average" (for the new SAT, of course) for:

UCSD: 2020
UCB: 2100
UCLA: 2100
UCD: 1850
UCI: 1900
UCR:1650
UCSB:1850
UCSC: 1700

ok so anyway, i found out that the summer courses taken between junior and senior year do in fact go onto your junior year according to the UC's.

if i get an A, and thus the extra weighted point added to my ucgpa, that would make it 3.91.

i broke the 3.9 mark, yay.

okay so i did some research and these are the
Official UC Admission Stats for 2006 (these are the GPAs and new SAT scores)

UCLA: 4.27 2009
UCB: 4.17 2007
UCSD: 4.03 1928
UCSB: 3.98 1849
UCI: 3.89 1849
UCD: 3.84 1824
UCSC: 3.67 1759
UCR: 3.59 1674
UCM: 3.58 1668

I thought it was kinda sad that UCR has essentially the same stats as UCM considering that Merced is a completely new school.
