what are my chances for the top UC schools?
GPA is absolutely fire! I mean, assuming that this is only sophomore and junior year, but still pretty fire! SAT score could use a ton of work, your GPA may be amazing, but UCB and UCLA accept a certain…er “type” of applicant you know? Try your hardest to bring that up to above 2000 (2100 and above is even better). Uh your ECs are pretty run of the mill, I kinda did the same thing as you except I have invitational, regional, and state medals from SciOly, but they do seem pretty balanced. Jesus. You sure take a whole lot of APs don’t you? Assuming that that’s all on your transcript you should be ok, but like I said, higher test scores. If you get that down, then you’ll get in for sure! Good luck, I’m planning to apply to these schools too.
@cheekylittleduck also, are you OOS? If you are, you have a SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER CHANCE of getting into Cal or UCLA. They’re capping in-state admits next year in favor of OOS.
I know my EC’s are not extraordinary but is it hurting me an awful lot?
No I’m not out of state. Live right here in CA
@cheekylittleduck your ECs are fine, they won’t hurt you a bit. Since you are in state, like I said, just get your SAT score up a couple hundred points, and you should be in the clear for both these schools. Due to the in-state caps they have on, it might be a little bit hard for you to get UCB because of your test scores.
Also, are you planning to declare major(s) when you apply? If so, then that can change your chances dramatically. UCs also tend to care about your school’s profile, so your GPA may be slightly depreciated if your school is not very… er high rank.
Yeah, forgot to mention, I’m considering some sort of biology major (generally speaking), potentially biochemical engineering or biomedical. And the UC’s are pretty favorable of my school I believe.
@cheekylittleduck yeah then that changes your chances dramatically… biochem and engineering are SUPER COMPETITIVE at both schools. Since you are instate too, it will be hard for you to get in. Your ECs are somewhat insufficient if you want to declare majors like those, and your test scores may be the end of you. Just try to get your tests up, and just do your best. Good luck!
