Chances for UCSB, UCSC, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO?? Please, I'm a wreck :(

Hey guys. Could you please chance a brother for getting into UCSB, SDSU, Cal Poly SLO, and UCSC? I should also add that I will write a really strong essay. Thanks:

UC/CSU GPA: 3.54

So yeah, my gpa isn't the greatest...but here are my tests scores which I hope improve my chances greatly:

ACT: 31

SAT II: Math 2: 760

And here are my ECs:

100 hours community service

Volunteered as a tutor in an official tutoring program in library

Worked as an intern/manager at a car dealership for over 100 hours

4 years as an officer of a club, 1 year being the VP of said club

Horseback riding

Play guitar

Thanks guys.

I think you are pretty much in at UCSC, SDSU, and Cal Poly SLO (assuming you’re not majoring in engineering). I think, because of your GPA, that UCSB is a reach for you. However, your ACT and SAT II are both pretty good, so if your essay is outstanding, there is a chance for you to get into UCSB. Good luck!

I’m just gonna go ahead and bump this.

I agree with refreshe4; UCSC, SDSU, and SLO should be fine. UCSB is a reach, but it’s not unreasonable. My UW GPA is almost identical to yours, so we’re in the same boat, aha!

Bump bump bump

Cal Poly is a toss up. For 2011, average Freshman GPA: 3.92. Avg ACT: 29

So you are solid on the ACT, but below average on the GPA, so it REALLY depends on your major of choice.

If you are going for the top 3 colleges (engineering, business, architecture), you might have a problem. Otherwise, you should be okay.

For UCSB, the admission criteria is similar to Cal Poly, possibly higher by a hair. So it is definitely another marginal situation. You might get in if all the stars aligned.

SDSU, and UCSC you should be fine.
