Attending fairly rigorous Catholic college prep school.
Varsity Track and Field and Cross Country for 3 years and captain for one.
First generation African American male.
Fairly good essays.
Applying undeclared for all schools

......What are my chances at each of these schools?

Occidental is out of reach. So are UC schools because of really bad GPA.
What happened during Freshmen year?

UCSC: High Match
UCSB/UCD/Oxy/SCU: Low Reach

Although the UC’s do not use Freshman grades for UC GPA, you UC GPA is still below the average of 4.0+ for all except UCSC. It is great you have made such a great comeback. Your essays may give you a boost so you may have better chances with the privates since they tend to be more holisitic. You should include UCR or some Cal States on your list for safeties and matches. Do not let yourself get shutout…

@paul2752 Well alot of things happened Freshman year. I explained it in one of my essays.
@Gumbymom I am also applying to some saftey schools! And thank you! Your words provide great encourgment!

Ended up getting into CPP, CSULB, SDSU, UCR, UCSC, UCSB, LMU, and Occidental! Rejected by Cal Poly SLO (Applied for CS), UCI, UCD, UCLA, UCB, and SCU! Just thought it would be worth posting if someone was to look over this thread in the future!
Congratulation!
Occidental college is a very good LAC. Did you get any schoalrship?
Yes, I actually did. Occidental gave me about 57,000, which was very generous of them. However, I ultimately chose to go to UCSB.
As stupid as it seems, I’ve always wanted to go to a school with a bit of name recognition. Also, Oxy was simply too small for me. Not much bigger than my high school.
Oxy is well known as well, but I hope you enjoy Ucsb
WOW congrats! I will be applying to UCSB this fall. I also did very poorly my freshman year, but hopefuly UCSB will look passed that! Also I am an SB local!
