Applied as undecided to L&S. I live in California. First generation college student, came to US at 6th grade, i think essays were okay. in the first prompt i discussed some family issues that affected me in the 10th grade and how i overcame them. 2nd prompt was about my performance at the hollywood bowl

I would say the same as Conan, you have over a 50% chance as well for SD. For LA and B however you probably have around maybe between 40 and 50.
I applied to SD as well, and I have a 3.82 UC GPA and 1940 on sat scores, wondering if you could chance me for SD and Irvine and Davis?

I’d say Berkeley and LA are low reaches, as they are for most people. You have good enough test scores and GPA to get in, so it will be down to your EC’s and essays to make you “shine” above the rest. I’d say your involvement in music is a great boost though, so you have a good shot.

Hey Edbreed, Irvine and Davis look high matches to me. SD is probably a low reach but I don’t know much about your extracurriculars. I think UCSD’s admission used to be based on a points system where they would take your UC GPA x 1000 and (sat I x sat II x sat II x .8) and they would add up a lot of other points as well and compare you to the other applicants. I’m not sure if they’re still doing the same thing>

Thank you for your insight PAGRok. I am just scared my grades in my sophmore year will ruin any chance that I could possibly have.

Thanks mahrap, just like you i struggled in Algebra 2… I had a horrible teacher, and had to teach myself. I’m taking lit as well this year, and took BC last year.

haha yea. Well my sophomore year grades are just all around horrible. I’m hoping the admission officers will like the improvement and see that I got an A in math the next year. But I don’t know… I feel like my sophomore year will ruin any chances that I could possibly have.

I have to say I’m really jealous of your grade lol. I think yo would have a really good shot at UCLA: My older brother have about the same grades you did, rank 23 his grades I believe were all A’s in math classes however Calc BC B and B, his English grades were 9th grade B, B and 10th grade C, C, science grades A’s took chem reg though. He was in a lot of extra curricular activites like MESA, Skill’s USA, AVID, Science Olympiad, did service hours without a club. He doesn’t really have a position in any of the clubs, just secretary one year. And his SAT score were low, 1560, I can see urs is way higher at 2100, mainly because of his English and Reading portion that brought him down. His Math is very good. Overall for an admission to UCLA I have to say ur chances are probably better than his.

Your scores, courseload, and ECs are good. If anything, I would recommend trying to raise your SAT or ACT scores as much as you can. I think you have a good chance of getting in.

I’d say you’ve got a good shot. If I were you, the only thing I’d be worried about is the two Cs. Did you mention it in any of your essays at all?

Yea the two C’s are just what worry me. Well in the first prompt, I talked about how a lot of my family issues affected me during the 10th grade. I didn’t explicitly make up excuses for the C’s because I thought they would hate that, however, I did relate the issues to my grades. The main one was that my mother left our house for 6 months, during the 10th grade, and I had to start taking care of all the household chores and other issues. I’m also hoping maybe they see my improvement from the 10th grade to the 11th grade and see that even though i got a C in algebra 2, I was able to get A’s in AP calculus A and honors math analysis/trig and possibly overlook those grades…but I don’t know I feel like those two C’s will destroy me

Don’t hold me to this, but I have heard that they do give some value to an “upward trend.” So having those grades sophomore year is much better than having them junior year. What’s your GPA?

Yea that’s what I heard too. My UC GPA is 4.16 :(. But it is due to my sophomore year. I think my Junior year GPA comes out around 4.5 while my sophomore year is around 3.8 or 3.9.

Hey guys. Just wanted to say I already got into UCSD as undeclared and UC davis as aerospace engineering. Still waiting for LA, Berkeley, and Santa Barbra.
