Chances for UCSD, UCLA, UCR, UCI..but mostly UCSD

I REALLY want to go to UCSD, but in light of my test scores, I'm pretty worried :/

UC GPA: about a 3.7 I think (definitely not lower)

3 ap classes junior year (bio, us hist, lang)

3 ap classes senior year (psychology, gov't, lit)

No math class senior year (but taking one at local comm. college)

3 years of foreign language

ECs:

(these are the ones that I'm most involved in)

I started a virtue class for about ten children (meets every saturday for 2 hours)

Girl Scout leader

captain of basketball team (four years)

volunteer at local horse riding academy (helps kids with special needs)

volunteer with at a camp for diabetic children every summer since 8th grade

Work Experience:

Referee during the winter every Sunday for about 4 or 5 hours

Now come the test scores... :(

ACT: 26 overall :/ .... but a 30 in the english section and a 28 in the math portion

and I only took it once. I know, stupid mistake.

Major: undeclared

Thank you!!! :)

Unfortunately I think that UCSD and UCLA would be moreso reach schools for you. I do not know much about California schools but I do know state schools such as those look at numbers greatly. I’m pretty sure you can take another SAT or ACT in January and it can count if you send your scores directly to the college but I’m not totally sure so you might want to check that out. Your gpa is decent so I think you still have a shot and your ACT score isn’t horrible but you need to raise it if you want to be a really competitive applicant. UCR and UCI i think are matches for you (again I am not extremely familiar to California schools but what I can tell from their student profile it seems like you have a good chance). Hope this helps & I hope you get into UCSD!

UCSD and UCLA are reaches.
UCI is a high match.
UCR is a safety. (This is considered the “****” tier of the UCs and just about anyone with at least a 3.0 gets in)

Thank you so much!! :)

I would say that you’re gonna have to work on those test scores jstewart. I also noticed that you’re from New England so you should try to bump up your GPA if possible. UCSD is a reach but not impossible! good luck!

maybe try pulling up your gpa and ACT? ur ACT isnt that bad though. UCI, UCR high possibility. but not sure about UCLA & UCSD because nowadays UCs are on budget cuts so its more competitive. they start accepting more out-of-state student and international students. i think with a good personal statement, UCSD is worth a try! And also GOODLUCK! by the way, try choosing a non-impacted major if u can, it will increase ur chance. (art major wont be strict on your test scores) because one of my friend who got a 3.4 gpa and 1600 on SAT got accepted to USC, but of course, he had an amazing ceramic portfolio.
