Chances for UK Schools!!!

I'm an American Student from Wisconsin and it's my dream to go to a school in the UK!

Schools: St. Andrew's, University of Edinburgh, University College London, Oxford

Stats:

I'm not putting my GPA in because when you apply I know they don't even ask for your GPA

ACT: 34
SAT: 2200
APs Scores in parenthesis: Calc AB (5), US History (5), Language (5), Statistics, Literature, Chemistry, Macroeconomics, Psychology <--- Ones w/o parenthesis I am currently taking

I want to either apply for Economics, or International Relations

Please Chance Me!!
And let me know if there's anything I could do to improve my chances (such as SAT Subject Tests)

Also, if you've been accepted to any of these schools please post your stats!
Thanks!

bump

I would advise you to work extra hard - remember, you’ll be an international student competing for spots with kids who’ve been doing IGCSE and A-Levels … so you’ll have to demonstrate that you want it bad enough.
Also, do you know exactly what course you want to take in university?
Be EXTREMELY sure about what you want to do because that’s the course you’ll be applying for.
The interviews are very specific - they want to test your academic ability, not just discover your personality and what you love doing in your free time. So be ready for hard hitting questions!
The fact that you’re taking AP classes is wonderful  Congratualtions on the ACT by the way - you’ve got great stats!
I dont have any stats to post, but I’m interested in applying to Oxord as well…
Your chances are ok for st Andrews and Uni of Edinburgh, but UCL and Oxford are a reach , just like an Ivy would be.
good luck and hope I helped!

As Yal3Girl pointed out, St. Andrew’s, University of Edinburgh, and University College London are one story, Oxford is another.

But- they all go on the same application, with the same essay, so you have to write the essay really carefully. Spend some time on a UK website called the student room- do a search, as I can’t post the URL here. You will learn a lot about the whole process, and there are people who will help you polish your personal statement (btw, they put the year of entry, not the year of finishing, so you will be 2013 entry).

For all of them, they want to know that you know what you want to study, and have some depth in that area. The Scottish unis are more forgiving b/c they are 4 year programs, but the English ones are 3 years- think of it as going in as a sophomore: you are meant to already know what you want to study.

You are right that they don’t care about GPA (though Andrews will ask for your transcript), and they only care about ECs to the extent that they clearly relate to your subject (ie, Model UN → IR).

You have a lot of good test scores, so the main thing you need to do now is 1) read around the university web sites to learn about the exact course(s) you want to apply to; 2) read around in that subject- easier to do now that APs are done! and 3) work on your personal statement (it really helps to have it done or nearly done before the summer is over. One last thing- if you are applying to a course at Oxford that has an aptitude test- many do- be sure to figure out how to get registered for it- it can take some time to organize if your school hasn’t done it before, and the deadline is early in the school year.

…and good luck!
