<p>Student Council: I was the Sophomore Treasurer and previously the Junior Vice President. I am currently the President of the Senior Class. Student Council is actively involved in various functions of school activities including Homecoming, Winter Court, new student orientation, fund raising events, and volunteer services. </p>
<p>I am the Co-Founder and President/VP of my schools Spanish Club. The club has about 15 members and is growing with each meeting. </p>
<p>I am a Co-Founder of Math Club. The club will be sponsored by my schools Calculus teacher. I have attended three math competitions in high school and enjoyed the challenges. The club will focus training for math competitions, applying math to the real world, and tutoring and mentoring fellow members and others outside the club. I hope this club will bring about a strong interest for math in my school! </p>

<p>There are only about 200 students in this program across all of North Carolina. I have taken Genetics /Biotechnology and Medicinal Chemistry. I will be taking Forensics Science in Spring 2011. Classes are taken after school hours. </p>

NCSSM Research Symposium- The North Carolina School of Science and Math Symposium was a weeklong research project on the biodiversity, sustainability, and domestic/international policy of food. For my project, my group researched the US's policies for importing and exporting food. We drafted an idea of how we could rework our food system to integrate more organic food choices at lower prices while helping third-world countries become contenders in the food farming industry.

<p>Duke Junior Volunteers Program: Volunteered 3 weeks this past summer at Duke Hospitals anesthesia department. I helped restock anesthesia carts and learned a lot about the different anesthesia supplies and how a hospital functions. I also witnessed several live surgeries, like a double coronary bypass and valve repairs on a nine-day old baby. This helped me realize my passion for helping others and pursuing a career in the medical field.</p>
