Chances for University of Chicago?

I've made a big decision which involves applying to University of Chicago. I know a person's chances of being accepted to any school cannot really be predicted, but I'd just like to get some feedback. Okay, here is my information:

My GPA as of last year was a 95.975 out of 100 (also a 4.0 I believe)
I am ranked 26th out of 176 people
My school does not offer many AP classes, however I took AP english as a junior and made a 5 on the test. I am taking AP biology and AP statistics this year, and I have been in as many honors classes as I possibly can be. My school is not very rigorous so I have done my best.
I am in NHS, I am senior class president and I was junior class president, I am drama club president (have been involved for four years), I am a committee chair for student council (involved for three years), I participate in academic competitions called UIL in One Act Play and Poetry Interpretation, I have a job as a hostess working many hours a week, I tutor elementary school kids. I attended Phillips Exeter Academy for the past four summers for classes. My SAT is a 1980 (three score), and my ACT is a 28 composite. Obviously, I can't insert recommendations or essays in here, but I will say that I am a very strong writer (it is what I'm planning on studying). One of the essays is about a mentally deficient man I know who taught me how to be patient at a young age. That is my commonapp essay, not part of the supplement.

Just to get an idea...what do you believe my chances may be? Thank you very much!

big reach 10char

You’re a reach considering test scores. There are a lot of kids like yourself so you need to give yourself an edge with test scores.

Your class rank and SAT scores are low in the applicant pool, but the rest of your application is impressive. The essay sounds a bit cliche though… it wouldn’t hurt you but it definitely wouldn’t help you. To be honest, I don’t think you’re getting in at all unless you had some VERY difficult circumstances (low income URM)

Chance me back?

Reach; what’s your backup plan?

Your test scores are a bit low, it will be a reach. Make sure your essay is amazing…

To put you in a more positive mood, Uchicago is really random. I don’t think it’s so much scores and GPA related as trying to see if you match their general type of Uchic student. So make sure to have ur supps really show you’re the kind of student that thinks outside of the box. I have friends that got rejected with higher SATs than you, but I’ve also see people on here who did much worse than you get in. It’ll be a reach, but your scores won’t kill you.

don’t worry you’ll get in :)

You’ll get in if your essays are AMAZING. If they’re average, you’ve got much less of a shot.

Big reach. To get a perspective on how good your essay really are, here are a few essays that were so great that Johns Hopkins decided to post them up. Compare and see if your essays are up to par. If so, there is somewhat of a chance. Otherwise I would say that your chances are slim.

We seem to be in the same boat-- I also applied to UChic, but only with a 29 ACT (30 superscored was the highest I could manage). Personally, I still believe that you have a good shot if your essays and rec letters are incredible. I would like to think that the University of Chicago especially looks at these factors before tossing aside an application due to a lower test score. Overall, I believe it is a reach, but not impossible!
