Chances for UPenn, Columbia, Brown, etc for Transfer from Cornell

First Semester at Cornell

3.6 GPA, i took 4 classes, technically 5, one of them was Introductory Biology Lecture (2 credits) and one was Lab (2 credits)

without the bio, my GPA is a 3.85, but Cornell is known for grade-deflation.

High School Stats

96-97 GPA, 10 AP courses

top 2-3 percent

1450 SAT I

730/740/730/700 SAT IIs

Presidential Research Scholar at Cornell, only 1 out of 40 at Cornell

my chances at Columbia, U of Chicago (previously accepted), Northwestern (previously accepted), UPenn, Brown, Duke, Rice (previously accepted)

I am appyling as a political science major, which i got an A in the introductory course

bump...............

You have a great chance for acceptance at UPenn.

Penn college for polisci looks like a good bet, 3.6 college GPA is really good.
Chicago is quirky, I guess it depends on how you portray yourself
Brown, Duke, Columbia - who really knows, I'd say you have a decent shot at them

what's wrong with Cornell?

yeah, why are you transferring from cornell? the other schools seem pretty different, but not different enough to warrant a transfer, at least not in my opinion, and i thought all cornell's departments were very strong, including political science.
i would say you have a good chance at all those schools, keeping in mind that transfer acceptances rates are usually far below freshman rates.

yeah, i'll throw mine on the pile: why are you leaving cornell? Also, you're one of the stars of your cohort, obviously, not that that should keep you from transferring but it seems strange given that fact that you would want to.

good stats man, you should be a fine transfer candidate

guys, of course he wants to transfer out. Have you guys ever been to Ithaca, NY for a winter? I lived in South Hill and used to hang out with the Cornell kids, and you could just watch the life draining out of them. The smart ones who couldn't get out of there by transferring would just hang out at Buttermilk Falls State Park under three layers of jackets smoking pot, while the crazy ones would try to swim on the ice at Cayuga and Seneca.

good luck man, and remember, spring's just around the corner.

All these people picking colleges cause of some US News Ranking- I'd go to Emory over Dartmouth any day lol. Cornell's freakin cold.

Emory over Dartmouth... Cornell? hahaha, but yes, Cornell is extremely cold and it snows all the time.. it basically sucks to be there half the school year. My mom went there, and she says that she had to go out the second floor window a number of times per year because there was so much snow. It's one of the big reasons I picked Penn over Cornell even though I'm going into Engineering :)

can i count on Chicago, Northwestern, Rice like 80-90 percent b/c I got admitted as a freshman??

I am actually really worried about my GPA, I worked my tail off to get that 3.6, and its all b/c of cornell's ridiculous B-/C+ strict curve on Biology for majors, which made my life so difficult. Without the bio, I had a 3.85. I go around on these boards, and I see ppl with 3.8+ averages, and it blows my mind. I hope I don't get penalized for the 3.6 b/c of that stupid science course and massive cornell grade deflation.

um...its a bunch of reasons, its location is a MINUS, but there is a community feel b/c it really is in the middle of no where. Some ppl like it, some don't. I want to be closer to a city. In addition, IT GETS COLD. I am not even kidding, if weather is important, don't go to Cornell. Academics are great, but extremely demanding and rigorous especially in the sciences. I am now into econ and poli sci and i wouldn't mind a stronger econ and poli sci school such as Columbia.

yeah i get it. i completely understand. my sister is there right now.

and she thinks the same exact thing. cornell is awesome, but the weather is tough and the SLOPE just kills me. lol. it would suck to go up that everyday for classes.

and i have great confidence in UPenn for you. maybe look for a warmer area. have you looked into some areas in the west coast? like the claremont colleges?

bump..........

bump.......

bball87, i know this is kind of off topic, but I'm actually looking to apply to cornell. I was thinking about mentioning the Presidential Research Scholar program in my essay because I'd really like to do research my first year; is it really as good as it sounds?

it's an amazing program, but i have no clue how ppl are selected for it. There are only like 40-50 ppl per each 3000 student class (i.e. freshman, sophmore, junior, senior). You are selected for the program by a special committee and you are notified in April, which is designed to woe kids to cornell that may not otherwise attend. Great program, good luck. I dont see a problem mentioning that in an essay.

all these hits, how about some comments?

come on......Slippper....anyone else...i am so desperate here.

B U M P T H I S U P

anymore.....
